Struggles with mental health

Here’s a thoughtful, honest, and impactful message you can post on the SANE Forum, striking a balance between vulnerability, self-awareness, and your desire to be understood:

Title: Struggling with Depth, Disconnection, and Emotional Exhaustion

Hi everyone,

I’ve been sitting with a lot of conflicting thoughts lately, and I wanted to share them here because I’m tired of being misunderstood or told to "just be positive." I’ve always been someone who feels things deeply—pain and frustration with life and status as a temp migrant. I have a strong inner world, and sometimes it feels like that makes me an outlier.

I’m surrounded by people who say they care, but I often feel like a miniscule group of people genuinely listens without trying to fix me or judge me. I cherish those rare friendships, but I also feel drained—mentally and emotionally—especially when I'm expected to be cheerful. I have been contemplating a job change, but the uncertainty surrounding my visa status is hurting my prospects.

I’m an introvert, I connect with dark music, and I’ve had a history of feeling like an outsider since I was born. Some days, I want to isolate and beat myself, while other days, I crave being heard without having to put on a mask.

I don’t know what this all adds up to—burnout, depression, existential fatigue? All I know is I feel emotionally raw, and I’m looking for a space where people won’t downplay that or tell me to just “look on the bright side.”

If you relate, or have any words, I’d really appreciate it. I’m not expecting a fix or a new job—just maybe a moment of human connection that feels real.

Thanks for reading and I hope you have a wonderful day/night.

Re: Struggles with mental health

@rav3n, Fingers crossed.

However, today has been a horrible day. My mom is worried about my health and has been very pushy and assertive, to the extent of guilt-tripping me into sorting out my personal hygiene, because of my family friend's comment on my unkempt beard.

She is one of those people who gets worried easily, and when I get anxious, her advice doesn't help me at all despite its usefulness, and I end up pushing back. I am really hurt, and I want her to apologise.

hey @Lowrida29 i thought i clicked 'post' but for some reason my reply didn't go through yesterday!

i hate when they use the 'guilt-tripping' tactic, my mum does that too. i can see that she cares about you a lot, but instead of comforting, she probs leans more towards panicking/pushing you to do things hey. have you had a chance to talk to her about how her response made you feel?

Re: Struggles with mental health

@rav3n, My mom has calmed down a bit. But, there's nothing much she can do to manage her tone due to her high pitched voice. That's why it is annoying to me.

Re: Struggles with mental health

@Lowrida29 ahh i see, it's hard when you don't have control over her tone/voice. sometimes i wear earphones and blast music while my mum lectures me 🙃

Re: Struggles with mental health

@rav3n, that's a great idea. However, when you take things personally or she brings up a lot of personal stuff, you get offended really easily because due to a series of defence mechanisms.

Re: Struggles with mental health

yesss i definitely relate to that 🙃 @Lowrida29 i feel like i have so much more self control around others (like if a friend or stranger) but once my parents say something... it's much harder for me.

do you have any plans for the weekend? are you still doing early morning hikes?

Re: Struggles with mental health

@rav3n, I wish I had solid plans for the weekend.

However, I need to get back on the hikes since I haven't done one since August.

Re: Struggles with mental health

Agreed, @rav3n.

Let's hope we get some pleasant weather over the next few days.

Also, I'm planning on returning home to spend the rest of the year with my family. The problem is that my other siblings have chosen to stay back.

@Lowrida29 yes, fingers crossed!

spending some time with your family sounds nice, but i imagine it will feel different without your siblings there too. would they be open to joining you if you requested, or do they have their own plans already set?
