Here’s a thoughtful, honest, and impactful message you can post on the SANE Forum, striking a balance between vulnerability, self-awareness, and your desire to be understood:

Title: Struggling with Depth, Disconnection, and Emotional Exhaustion

Hi everyone,

I’ve been sitting with a lot of conflicting thoughts lately, and I wanted to share them here because I’m tired of being misunderstood or told to "just be positive." I’ve always been someone who feels things deeply—pain and frustration with life and status as a temp migrant. I have a strong inner world, and sometimes it feels like that makes me an outlier.

I’m surrounded by people who say they care, but I often feel like a miniscule group of people genuinely listens without trying to fix me or judge me. I cherish those rare friendships, but I also feel drained—mentally and emotionally—especially when I'm expected to be cheerful. I have been contemplating a job change, but the uncertainty surrounding my visa status is hurting my prospects.

I’m an introvert, I connect with dark music, and I’ve had a history of feeling like an outsider since I was born. Some days, I want to isolate and beat myself, while other days, I crave being heard without having to put on a mask.

I don’t know what this all adds up to—burnout, depression, existential fatigue? All I know is I feel emotionally raw, and I’m looking for a space where people won’t downplay that or tell me to just “look on the bright side.”

If you relate, or have any words, I’d really appreciate it. I’m not expecting a fix or a new job—just maybe a moment of human connection that feels real.

Thanks for reading and I hope you have a wonderful day/night.

Re: Struggles with mental health

@rav3n, last night was chill. I enjoyed the tiramisu my sister's friend had brought.
I have a screening call for a role based in Melbourne, thanks to a referral. Fingers crossed!

Indeed, @rav3n.

What's your favourite cake, btw? Anything chocolatey and coffeeish is the GOAC.

Re: Struggles with mental health

AGREED! i tend to like chocolatey ones too @Lowrida29 little sparrow used to make a ferroro rocher inspired cake (but they discontinued making it) - it was so good! it had different layers of choc and nice glazed layer at the top. cheesecake factory also does a nice black forest cake!

do you have a least fav cake?

Re: Struggles with mental health

@rav3n, I dislike anything with nuts. That said, I like my cakes plain and simple.

Hbu?

Re: Struggles with mental health

@Lowrida29 that's fair, so you a fan of cheesecake? i'm not usually a fan of them but there's a sara lee bavarian cheesecake that i do like 😋

i'm not a fan of fruit cakes haha. i don't like biting into a cake and finding dates or almonds or any chunky pieces. i guess i'm the same as you with nuts!

Re: Struggles with mental health

@rav3n, anything with raisins, chunky pieces and nuts is a no-no.

Also, I had a screening call for a sustainability analyst role in Melb, though I have to pivot into a different field.

In response to: Re: Struggles with mental health

Re: Struggles with mental health

@Lowrida29 yep exactly!!

oo interesting! how'd the screen call go? how do you feel about potentially pivoting into a different field?

In response to: Re: Struggles with mental health

Re: Struggles with mental health

@rav3n, there were a couple of transferable skills I could mention during the call. However, it feels like a little step down from my previous role.

At this point, I'm all out of options so unless I get callbacks from other companies, I may have to stay put.

Re: Struggles with mental health

that's fair @Lowrida29. even though it's a stepdown from your previous roles, i imagine that there'll be opportunities to climb back up and move back into your field of interest after a while.

as always, got my fingers crossed for you!!
