Title: Struggling with Depth, Disconnection, and Emotional Exhaustion

Hi everyone,

I’ve been sitting with a lot of conflicting thoughts lately, and I wanted to share them here because I’m tired of being misunderstood or told to "just be positive." I’ve always been someone who feels things deeply—pain and frustration with life and status as a temp migrant. I have a strong inner world, and sometimes it feels like that makes me an outlier.

I’m surrounded by people who say they care, but I often feel like a miniscule group of people genuinely listens without trying to fix me or judge me. I cherish those rare friendships, but I also feel drained—mentally and emotionally—especially when I'm expected to be cheerful. I have been contemplating a job change, but the uncertainty surrounding my visa status is hurting my prospects.

I’m an introvert, I connect with dark music, and I’ve had a history of feeling like an outsider since I was born. Some days, I want to isolate and beat myself, while other days, I crave being heard without having to put on a mask.

I don’t know what this all adds up to—burnout, depression, existential fatigue? All I know is I feel emotionally raw, and I’m looking for a space where people won’t downplay that or tell me to just “look on the bright side.”

If you relate, or have any words, I’d really appreciate it. I’m not expecting a fix or a new job—just maybe a moment of human connection that feels real.

Thanks for reading and I hope you have a wonderful day/night.

Re: Struggles with mental health

are you going overseas or interstate to visit your family? @Lowrida29 do you have time this week to maybe grab dinner with a friend? i've been trying to make time to catch up with my friends too, i haven't been reaching out as much.

thanks! i agree, they are quite long. i try listen to it while i do chores, so that way i feel like i'm multitasking hehe. do you like reading?

Re: Struggles with mental health

@rav3n, my family is in another city. So, I have planned a visit next month to see them.

I am attending a networking event on Thursday night to get some leads. However, asking some people out for dinner or for a walk is another challenge.

I have a couple of books on the shelf. But, I need some space to read them.

@Lowrida29 nice! are you looking forward to the visit? are you visiting for long?

i'm travelling interstate next month too, but for my friend's engagement.

oo let us know how the networking event goes!

so fair, organising hangouts with friends can be quite emotionally exhausting at times. maybe once your back from your trip it might be a bit easier to plan.

@rav3n. Although it is a 2 week trip, I think I will have to keep up with the groundwork for interviews. However, I get to spend my birthday with my family.

Hi @rav3n,

I hope your friends engagement went well. I am hanging out with family on an interstate trip.

I opened up to my family about my struggles, the need to stay in this country for a job, and my fear of returning to India for work. While I broke down, my dad was there to comfort me, and suggested the option of returning to India to cut my losses in case there was no breakthrough.

Letting out my feelings to my parents was great and gave me the inner strength to continue the job search. But, I wish I had been more open to my parents especially my father at the beginning of the year since he could have had some ideas to stay calm at my previous employer. Also, the fear of returning to India while my siblings enjoy their time in other countries continues to annoy me.

Re: Struggles with mental health

hey @Lowrida29!!!

it's great to hear from you 💙

the engagement is this week so i'll be heading off to qld on thurs! how's your interstate trip going? have you been moving around and visiting places, or is it a bit more of a chill trip?

aww your dad sounds like such an understanding and lovely person, i'm really glad you were able to open up to him and feel comforted. it's hard opening up to our parents, especially when we have that pressure to do well, and we're unsure how our parents will respond - but it's really brave of you to take that step and open up to them now. better late than never, right?

ahh yep, makes sense why you'd feel frustrated. out of curiousity, are you interested in applying for jobs in other countries (outside of Australia and India) ?

Re: Struggles with mental health

@rav3n, I am interested in applying for jobs in the UAE as I was born and raised there.
Singapore is an option but just like the UAE, I need a work permit which reduces the odds significantly.

Re: Struggles with mental health

i see how the work permit part makes it tricky @Lowrida29 UAE and Singapore would be pretty cool. are any of your siblings working in those countries at the moment?

Re: Struggles with mental health

My sister works in Melbourne, and my brother works in the US.

At this point, I'm trying to cold email employers in Australia for different jobs after applying. However, consistency is something I need to work on
