Something’s not right

My life sucks

My life sucks

And I have no hope that it’ll get better, despite being told by everyone that spoken to that it would. But I know for a fact that it won’t, not even in decades time.

Re: My life sucks

@Blackcloud Hello lovely how are you? You’ve done really well reinforcing the boundaries. I hope your mum can respect them but if she does it again keep re-inforcing boundaries. I do understand how hard it is to keep going over this with her. But you are doing really well. How is settling in to your new place going? Any highlights yet?

Re: My life sucks

@Cuddlebear thank you my friend, that means a lot!! ❤️

hmmm I believe I told you a bit about that last time when you asked me that same question haha 😄 but yes, the new place is going fine. I like how the university here is close to where I live, so that I can easily go to the library there and do my studies nearly everyday like I am now 🙂

I also had my first placement at lifeline yesterday but things didn't go the way I expected it or wanted it to be, so it didn't go well at all and I've been very upset about it ever since. But I guess it's normal for supervisors in every workplace to give you constructive "feedback"/criticism....but not gonna lie it was actually quite upsetting when I got the constructive feedback from my placement supervisor yesterday regarding what I said in one of the interactions I had with the help seeker that then led them to respond to me with "you're repeating what I'm saying. Are you a real person or an AI?". Also, my placement supervisor he's quite funny and all but he didn't seem like the most empathetic person, especially when I was interacting with him during a call yesterday and when he provided me feedback -- it was all an awkward dynamic/interaction...🙃

Re: My life sucks

@Blackcloud Yeah I thought I’d ask again in case you had explored more 🙂 I’m really glad Uni is so close gosh that is so handy for studying! It’s a good day to be on campus quite chilly and not as much on for adults these days.

Oh lovely I’m sad to hear your first day volunteering didn’t go so well. Sounds like the supervisor as harsh and doesn’t sound empathetic. It takes practice in any new role so I do hope it hasn’t put you off. Though I totally understand that it’s upsetting to get feedback in a harsh way. Do you have another shift?

Re: My life sucks

@Cuddlebear ahh I see, no worries!! 😄 yeah there's actually a lot of shops around here which is great, and they even have a variety of boba tea franchises nearby which is even more convenient as a boba lover myself! also, there seems to be a couple of Cambodians around this particular area too. even the owner who owns the accomodation (that I live at right now) herself is a Cambodian immigrant but she does have some Aussie accent 🙂 I agree, it makes life so much easier when theres a uni nearby and you can easily go to the library there, which is actually my nearest library!!

honestly, it did put me off not gonna lie 🥲 it also made me not being able to do my uni studies yesterday except for when I only spent a few minutes on an assignment yesterday evening before the webinar started. Yes, I have another shift in more than 2 weeks time, because for a crisis supporter role it's recommended that you get a shift in every 2 weeks due to the emotional toll this role takes when it comes to having to provide care and compassion for help seekers. I was pretty shocked that my first two interactions with the help seekers yesterday involved situations regarding su!c!de

Re: My life sucks

@Blackcloud @I remember you mentioning at your old place you love boba tea so I am thrilled you’ve got one nearby lol!!!! Nothing like a nice treat! Sounds like things are going well with the new place and its location. Truly is so handy for it to be near Uni library.

I can understand not feeling upto study yesterday after what happened volunteering. I’m glad you attended the webinar though despite feeling unwell. Well done. It’s even better thwt today you are in the library doing some study.

Yeah I am sure Lifeline does have people with suicide ideation calling through. There’s a really big lack of mental health support when you are low income. Hospital emergencies are horrible with mental health and often send people home when they need acute care. Hence I’m not surprised people are reaching out to Lifeline. I’m really glad you get a break from shifts as it is very important work but taxing on mental health too.

Re: My life sucks

@Cuddlebear I was only able to attend the webinar for a bit before I decided to leave and then talk to lifeline through chat about what was going on yesterday 😂 yeah I did tell the crisis supporter I was chatting to yesterday about my issues that I had a placement there yesterday hehehe, so its like... I know that the supervisors might be talking to each other about it or something 🤭 but I know she told her supervisor about it too when she checked-out before her shift ended.

To clarify, the role I'm doing is actually a digital/text-based crisis support, so it's through chat that we're talking to crisis supporters to which makes it a lot useful and easier for me when its through chat instead of when its through phone. Totally agree that theres a big lack of mental health support when you're on a low income..I think about it quite a lot these days and you know it makes me sad and frustrated how things for us have to go this way, and how much the government doesn't care. But for my mum on the other hand, she still considers australia to be the best country to live in just because of the welfare system (Centrelink) that we have here, cause she's on carers allowance, my dads on DSP but has no income and I'm on the DSP... but yeah I am worried for the future (for myself and my life) though.

Re: My life sucks

@Blackcloud It’s good you reached out. It’s just sad that the Supervisor left you feeling so awful. I expect more from a Lifeline supervisor 😞

Ah yes I noticed Lifeline have a chat function. That’s good that you are able to use your preferred way of communicating to help people 🙂

Yup the system is awful and I can’t see it improving anytime soon. We are lucky in Australia to have certain things but we also have some stuff that is truly awful and costs lives.

Re: My life sucks

@Cuddlebear @Ahh yes…the rise of cost of living, inflation, capitalism… no wonder society is so broken… 😞 and with the increase of machete violence and youth crimes that’s been going on recently too, like….

Re: My life sucks

@Blackcloud Capitalism is evil and kills people, animals and the planet for greed. I dislike it immensely. The media really over blow youth crime and the Government doesn’t support young people to have better choices. 😞
