Talking through trauma and PTSD

Tillogram

Tillogram

I am wondering if anyone has any strategies that have helped them to banish the “Not Good Enough” thoughts.

It is apparently a common problem for those with childhood trauma (likely other things as well).

I think I try pretty hard to surmount this feeling. I have completed university degrees, I have worked pretty much continuously from age 14yo. I try to participate in sport and different other activities. I volunteer.

Maybe “doing things” is not the correct strategy (although it does act as a distraction).

I still think I am not good enough.

Re: Not Good Enough

@Till23 Of course, any time. ☺️

Yes, it's IFS! Good catch. I find this approach really resonates with me, as well as somatic practices. But I think all healing modalities and strategies have their place, and we can use little bits from every style in order to support ourselves. What modes of therapy are you most drawn to?

I understand how play might feel hard to connect with after your losses... I do wonder if there is a way you could incrementally incorporate more play into your day? Does anything come to mind?

Yes, it really was a lot! Please take your time. You don't even need to respond, I am simply happy you read it. 🥰

Hello @AuntGlow

We took another trailer load to the dump

I tided up my pot plants and watered them

Rested for the afternoon and had curried sausages and rice for dinner

Re: Not Good Enough

Yes @AuntGlow IFS and somatic therapies are increasingly used for childhood trauma and especially with dissociation. I mostly had CBT and trauma informed CBT with a bit of a leaning toward DBT as I have cPTSD. I have a good clinical psychologist with training in all of these.

I do try to do the daily puzzles in the newspaper (I am old) such as crossword, Sudoku and kenken, anagram etc. Sometimes I doodle. Table tennis is play.

I rekon there is nothing like the free joy of seeing a puppy doing a silly thing or even learning a new thing by themselves, because as you say, of their curiosity.

Crikey @Shaz51 I'm going to have to dry out my pot plants as their all drowning in this constant rain. I will lose some for sure.

You are really getting stuck into your garden clearing. You definitely deserve a rest.

I can barely run from my front door to my car without getting drowned.

Ooh I like curried sausages

@Till23

I was not going to do much today because of my Osteoporosis pain but hubby kept going

Hope the rain settles down for you

We have that rain all the time

Think we have had over 8 meters of rain this year already

Re: Not Good Enough

Oh well @Shaz51 at least it's done!

If you don't mind me asking, where do you get your pain mainly?

I know you get a lot of rain, but it evaporates quicker because of heat.

We had 300mm yesterday, after 300mm the day before and it's pretty much rained every day for two weeks before that so ground is waterlogged and my washing basket is full! I dry my clothes in sun normally! I don't have a dryer

Re: Not Good Enough

Hi @tyme how are you this evening. The rain has eased here today, so hopefully things can dry out. I was going not too bad today, until I seem to have unintentionally put my foot firmly in my mouth with a post where I was trying to be supportive but it appears the recipient has taken it differently. These are the types of things that send me down the Not Good Enough pathway, because I was really trying to be supportive. Sometimes, I don't respond to posts, that I'm not tagged in, because I think can I say this in a way that will not negatively impact the reader.
