Talking through trauma and PTSD

Tillogram

Tillogram

I am wondering if anyone has any strategies that have helped them to banish the “Not Good Enough” thoughts.

It is apparently a common problem for those with childhood trauma (likely other things as well).

I think I try pretty hard to surmount this feeling. I have completed university degrees, I have worked pretty much continuously from age 14yo. I try to participate in sport and different other activities. I volunteer.

Maybe “doing things” is not the correct strategy (although it does act as a distraction).

I still think I am not good enough.

Re: Not Good Enough

@NightFury , it's so powerful to read your story. These stories can transform lives. They are what can make or break a person. And as you tell and retell you story, you refine it - you may find yourself slowly leave parts out that are not so important and then embed other parts that are.

I find story telling an opportunity to clarity the meaning of life for the person as well as helping the person see a way ahead.

Thank you for taking the time to share.

Re: Not Good Enough

@tyme I get frustrated because I struggle to tell it as a whole...it just comes out in parts. And feels so...fractured.

Re: Not Good Enough

Well @NightFury at least I made that guestimation on the correct side. I could have said early fifties 😂 You are definitely not "in trouble" for saying it or being that age. I wish I was still in my early forties, I'm in my 60s which seems to be an age where you should have your life sorted!

Re: Not Good Enough

Of course it's ok to stop in and say hi @Semly I'm not sure if I've chatted with you before.

Yes, unfortunately Not Good Enough is not an uncommon thought or feeling.

I am copping non-stop rain, leaky roof and flooding, but flooding nowhere near as bad as others, I can still get to places, so not cut off.

I hope you are going well wherever you are geographically and in your journey

Hey @tyme how are you settling back in? Is your internal clock back in the correct time zone yet?

Are you really on this evening?

Hey @Shaz51 how are you going?

It's non-stop raining here, I'm worried about my house going mouldy! It's not 2 degrees thankfully, but it's not 19 either

Re: Not Good Enough

Hey @Till23 , I'm more 'with it' on the forums today. I was pretty lost yesterday as it was my first official day back 🙂

It's been great so far. I'm currently doing some forums training with @Tolly who is a counsellor and you may see them around on the forums at some point.

Hope you've been okay.

Re: Not Good Enough

Oh, hello @Tolly I haven't seen you around before.

I met @AuntGlow while you were away @tyme, who has been very helpful and lovely.

I've felt a little bit better today because I got another roofer to look at my roof and they seem really competent explained the problem. Said the fellow I got last friday was a clown when he saw what the previous fellow tried to do and said that was never going to work.

He's hopefully coming back on the weekend so I've got everything crossed. I need to get it fixed, because I need to, but I need at least a semi-permanent solution because I am also travelling OS to go to an international event with my sport. So we are both going to be jetsetters @tyme

Hello @Semly! Thank you so much for joining the discussion - this is a thread I really relate to as well. 💕

We would love nothing more than to support you too, so please feel free to share what's going on for you at the moment (whenever you feel ready, of course!).

And not too forward at all, we appreciate your kind and supportive words.

Hoping that you are warm and cozy wherever you are. ☺️💛

Re: Not Good Enough

Hi @Shaz51! It's a bit nippy where I am at the moment, so 19 sounds lovely!

What did you get up to today? 🌞
