Talking through trauma and PTSD

Tillogram

Tillogram

I am wondering if anyone has any strategies that have helped them to banish the “Not Good Enough” thoughts.

It is apparently a common problem for those with childhood trauma (likely other things as well).

I think I try pretty hard to surmount this feeling. I have completed university degrees, I have worked pretty much continuously from age 14yo. I try to participate in sport and different other activities. I volunteer.

Maybe “doing things” is not the correct strategy (although it does act as a distraction).

I still think I am not good enough.

My thoughts are with you. I would love to hear more about your dogs.

Do what you need to do re mourning.

We also had 2 animals as they keep each other company. A lady I know who recently lost her pet due to being hit by a car replaced him within a fortnight. We took a couple of years before we were ready to get our new cats. I waited til my son kept expressing interest and then he met someone looking for people to take them on, so it kind of seemed fated. We are happy we waited and happy we have them now.

Thanks @Dimity @Ru-bee @Shaz51 @MJG017 @NightFury @Appleblossom

My dog has gone over the rainbow bridge peacefully

I hope he enjoyed his last day with little strolls, hugs, and some of his favourite foods and treats. I was able to hold him as he went and I know he knew I was there for him.

Since I got home from vetI have thought to feed him, take him out for a wee and I thought I've seen him a couple of times . Hopefully that will lessen over next few days.

Thank you for your thoughts

Re: Not Good Enough

Thanks @rav3n the next couple of days will be hard because I will still be expecting him to be there, to meet me at the door, to watch me eat, in case some morsel makes it's way into his bite zone.

I'm sorry that he's gone I'm sure it will take a while to not feel like he's right there. But he'll always be there where it matters.

Yes I'm missing both my dogs now @MJG017, because when I lost his "sister" he was still there to feed and there were water bowls and beds for him. Now there's just emptiness. So I think it will take longer to get used to it. I will always remember them and the funny things they both did.

They do bring us so many smiles and laughs while they're with us don't they.

Re: Not Good Enough

Oh definitely @MJG017, when they were young they were my personal trainers, getting out regardless of the weather to take them for a walk, we did lots of exploring together and I didn't feel alone or awkward because I had the dogs and a bit of a safety factor. Then they entertained me and gave me a laugh, cuddles for endorphins and oxytocin. They are great therapists.
