Talking through trauma and PTSD

Tillogram

Tillogram

I am wondering if anyone has any strategies that have helped them to banish the “Not Good Enough” thoughts.

It is apparently a common problem for those with childhood trauma (likely other things as well).

I think I try pretty hard to surmount this feeling. I have completed university degrees, I have worked pretty much continuously from age 14yo. I try to participate in sport and different other activities. I volunteer.

Maybe “doing things” is not the correct strategy (although it does act as a distraction).

I still think I am not good enough.

Re: Not Good Enough

@Till23 the charity was regarded as very progressive and forward-thinking in its time... I lost track after I severed ties with them and ended up with a different diagnosis anyway. But apparently my parents had been involved with them and I don't know how much influence they'd had about their attitudes to MI.

Woah that sounds like something very different- sheltered workshop stuff and awful. Definitely not what I meant.

This is an example of a Clubhouse I’ve been to. https://www.progressplace.org/

@elephantears3 knows a lot about the model

Re: Not Good Enough

Well I was productive @AuntGlow, but much less than I was even a few months ago. Although the last month or so with national comp for my sport, some short term casual work with long shifts and volunteering for cancer charity on Mothers Day was quite full on.

Even though I wanted to avoid stressful things, I was feeling a bit worried the last couple of days that I didn't have much to do coming up and how would that make me feel, but I think I'm ok about it now, because I will be away for most of June, so need to plan for that. So it wasn't a sigh of relief it would be for many people.

I'm feeling good about volunteering tomorrow, I am in a slightly different role for last two weeks, which is busy and constant, which I like of course!

I am glad that I achieved things today, but I feel it's just what anyone would achieve, so it doesn't feel like anything special.

Thank you for offering to accompany me on this journey

Re: Not Good Enough

@Till23 It sounds like you have still been achieving so much! It's okay to fluctuate, you are human. I know with 100% certainty you would offer others this grace. (By the way, you are supporting other members so beautifully, thank you. 💗)

I get where you're coming from, I know that busy helps you. Tell me more about June! 😊

How was volunteering today?

If it makes you feel good and proud, then your achievements are special in their own way, right?

Of course! 🥰

Re: Not Good Enough

Thanks @AuntGlow

Yes, I would and have said to other people that they are doing well (whatever they can manage).

Because I have managed much more in the past, I feel I am not doing my best or enough. It's a pretty large drop in function.

I don't know if other members feel supported by me. I try to support them, but possibly I don't do it in the right way, many times I worry I might unintentionally make people feel worse.

I worry about every interpersonal interaction with people and I nearly always think I have not done well and I am not a nice person.

In June I am going overseas with my sport to do an event for fun!

Sorry another long post and too much detail

Re: Not Good Enough

Well, from what I have seen - other people are responding very well. It's so easy to believe our minds when they tell us we haven't done enough or aren't enough. But you have and you are. 💗

Oh that sounds rather overwhelming for you... interpersonal stuff is genuinely so triggering - I get it!! I also worry about the things I do and say a lot too. You're definitely not alone in this. I am glad your way of doings things was validated, it's very reassuring when people resonate with what we have to offer, isn't it? It's easy to overthink when we don't get those responses... what helps me is considering that there are so many reasons people do the things they do, and rarely are their actions/behaviours directly to do with me (they are more so a product of their own lived experiences and internalised beliefs!).

This is SO exciting!! Where are you going overseas? Also... a little reframe: perhaps not knowing people will allow you to be whatever versions of yourself that you need to be in any moment, and give them the opportunity to know and love you for who you are? 🥰

@AuntGlow , @Till23

I think we all get worried about what we say and what we do , I do every day , wondering if I said too little or saying too much
