Daily goals, motivation and check in

Daily goals, motivation and check in

I'm starting this discussion as a place where we can set our goals daily, help motivate each other to do them and then check in with how we went. It's a place to celebrate when we achieve them or just sit with each other if we didnt and are feeling down about it. Hopefully with encouragement and support from each other we'll tick lots of boxes for our daily goals and feel good about it. Please join in. 😊

Re: Daily goals, motivation and check in

I do this this weekly....Friday is always fish day. Vigils for the major feasts, Rogation Days, Ember Days, Lent and Advent all fall into the category of abstainence with or without fasting as well. This has been very good for me as I fell away from my religion when I was a teenager and determined to find my own damnation ( I was successful in this!). Returning to my faith has been supremely liberating, in that the boundaries set are much more liberating than having none at all.

These food restrictive days are also good for someone who has an unhealthy relationship with food.

Re: Daily goals, motivation and check in

I agree @Neb, in that it causes me to respect food and not take it for granted .... and it's a light discipline of the physical body .... but there are also a couple of other "rules" - this said lightly because fasting is personal and optional and not to be taken to extremes.

a) Whst comes out of your mouth is more important than what goes in ...,, no use fasting, then speaking awfully ..... disciplining the body is a way to help discipline the mind.

b) Fasting is not upheld for travelling ..... firstly because thee is enough going on without trying to seek out specific foods and making life difficult for yourself and others around you - especially if you are being hosted .... and secondly because travel ought to be relaxing and pleasurable, leaving you free also to taste local cuisine without feeling guilty.

c) as a dinner guest it is considered impolite to expect your hosts to accommodate fasting practices .... if you are asked about preferences or there are vegetarian options available, that is essy enough ...

d) fasting isn't just about dropping food groups .... understanding exchanges is important .... such as replacing meat with vegetable sources of protein like legumes, nuts and seeds, tofu products etc and shellfish is high in Vit B12, which is the one vegan vegetarians have to remain mindful of.

While at first it seems complicated and challenging, it soon becomes a comfortable pattern ..., and yes .... longer fasting periods for Christnas and Easter Lents, and other dates across the year. We also have Bright Weeks where no fasting rules apply for celebratory reasons ..... and I find that my appreciation for those foods has then increased too, without feeling the need to over-indulge just cause it's freely available.

Each to their own, but this has become special for me .... a form of prayer ....

Nice to hear it is for you too @Neb .... 😊

Hi @Former-Member ..... 💕

WH stands for Wayward Husband ..... he has lost his way in a complex eating disorder ..... totally in denial ..... thinks he's got the ultimate healthy lifestyle now, after being in the grip of B*nge Eating Disorder for many years prior to this. That form of e.d. didn't have the temper and control issues that have come flooding in with this new restrictive form.

Re: Daily goals, motivation and check in

Doing everything I know how to reduced the stress and anxiety in the household, and for me personally @Former-Member ..... but it is a high tide to try to hold at bay ..... and would be much worse if we left him as he has control over all our finances, phones, etc ..... and the behaviours we struggle with now would escalate dramatically.

Have to hold our ground until he collapses or reaches the "wake-up" stage of the e.d. cycle of change .....

Re: Daily goals, motivation and check in

I don't know if I've got the right thread or not, but I've just had a win and I want to have a 'crow' about it. I've just gotten (I call it) my secondary solar system going again ! 😄

I don't have mains power where I live and my 'main' solar system is starting to 'run out' of power at night (and still not be 'ready' first thing in the morning) When I bought new batteries for it late last year I didn't want to waste the old ones (solar batteries are very expensive). I hooked the old ones up to a panel, solar controller and inverter and made my own 'secondary' system. The old batteries finally died a natural death 😄 and I kind of just let the secondary system go. Well, I've just re-hooked it all up to a fairly good car battery and . . . Wa La! I'm running on my secondary system right now! 😄 😄

Awesome job on the second solar system, @Former-Member. It's amazing to me how self-sufficient you sound where you live. You rock, sister!

I'm just on another flying visit to the forum in between things with mum. Sending good vibes to all here for the rest of today.
