High functioning ASD

High functioning ASD

Hello everyone

Could not find a thread about high functioning ASD so I thought of starting a new thread

My husband's specialist thinks he has high functioning ASD but has not gone to get a proper diagnosis

As I have read some information, I can see it in my step children who has adhd

And I can see it in my husband

Hubby said " which is worse -- not sleeping for days or being washed out by meds and sleeping all the time "

Re: High functioning ASD

That’s a hard one @Shaz51. I don’t really know. It depends I guess if you can function without sleep. I certainly can’t. High risk with bipolar as well though.

This has thrown me. I got off the med that was washing me out so that’s a bonus.

Does he see any supports? A Pdoc or anything? Anything to help with meds? I couldn’t function without mine.

Re: High functioning ASD

@Captain24 , he has stopped taking his medication as they wipe him out

Trying to find the right medication, he has no support

We have made a doctors appointment on the 1st December

And he is thinking of ringing his medical team which he has not seen for over a year

So he is taking his old meds again but he does not like them

Re: High functioning ASD

What about getting a referral to a Pdoc? If it wasn’t for them I don’t know where I’d be. They have listened to me and listened to side effects and positive effects of meds. I have had many different changes in the past 4 or so years but getting the right diagnosis and the right meds have made a huge difference. @Shaz51

My GP couldn’t have done what the Pdoc has done. I’m on one medication that only the Pdoc can prescribe. My GP can’t and would have probably never even considered it and it has actually been amazing and has helped.

I do also follow up continuously and I also have a psych that I see and helps me with strategies and things to be able to keep functioning. There is no way I could do it without an entire team behind me. I do have to put the work in though and listen to what they say.

Re: High functioning ASD

He is depressed, ASD, retirement is killing him , bored , does not want to do anything , threw his meds in the bin this morning, it is so hot and humid here

Re: High functioning ASD

Is he willing to see anyone? @Shaz51. Someone to talk the depression through with? Someone that can help understand what is going on and actually diagnose?

Throwing meds out doesn’t help. I stopped meds and nearly ended up in hospital as I crashed that badly. Then I wasn’t taking them regularly and that didn’t help. Now I’m pretty strict with them and it has been helping.

Is there something you guys can do to ‘replace’ working? New adventures to find? Different things often so not just sitting around . Something stimulating to lessen the boredom?

Re: High functioning ASD

He does not take them regularly either @Captain24

He does not know what he feels like doing

I do suggestion but he just says no

And because I can not drive

Hopefully we can do something tomorrow
