High functioning ASD

High functioning ASD

Hello everyone

Could not find a thread about high functioning ASD so I thought of starting a new thread

My husband's specialist thinks he has high functioning ASD but has not gone to get a proper diagnosis

As I have read some information, I can see it in my step children who has adhd

And I can see it in my husband

I hear you @Shaz51 . And I think that's true for all carers. That boundary-setting is so important. Otherwise, there will be 2 who are unwell instead of one.

Beside coffee, what's your self-care tonight?

Watching gardening Australia @tyme

Love to grow more plants but gardening Australia is in the south

And then bed as I have been awake since 3am this morning as hubby has not been sleeping well

It’s hard with sleep @Shaz51. Your brain can ‘switch on’ at anytime and then it’s ready to go. I don’t know if you were on the sleep webinar but see if there is something that can quieten his mind to be able to go back to sleep? Maybe reading or something? You need to sleep as well. Or is there maybe another room you could sleep in every now and then to get some rest?

Maybe look into the CBTI. @Shaz51. It was in the webinar it’s CBT for insomnia. There maybe something in there that might help. CBT is not something that overly works for me as I don’t see pictures. I need a proper sleep or I don’t function well.

For me routine is really important. I’m struggling right now as I can’t do my usual things. I’m glad he managed some stuff this morning but a rest sounds good. Just let him be.

I find that while watching tv and stuff if I have a fidget toy of some description then it keeps me focused and stops my brain from wondering and from doom scrolling.

I had a big morning out. Lots of people, lots of noise, loud noise, revving motorbikes kind of noise. I even had to talk to people. A few of them. I’m feeling a little overstimulated and I still have to go to the markets tonight. So I’ve taken an extra adhd med and just chilling doing some Lego. It helps to calm down my mind and reset a little.

I don’t know if hubby has something like that? They are my go to’s.

Aww @Shaz51!! Sleep can be soooo hard - I think @Captain24 summed it up perfectly about the 'brain switch on' - I know sometimes I have to stop 'trying' to sleep because I'm already frustrated and by that stage there's not much point for me, I need to take at least half an hour to read or potter around.

How are you feeling, did that extra 3 hours this morning after a cuppa help?

Re: High functioning ASD

I was surprised I slept that long this morning @Jynx , usually only sleep an hour , so it was good

yes during the night mr shaz will fight it or spent time on his computer until like 3 or 4 am and he will make himself a cuppa which wakes me up (COFFEE ) 😂😂

Photography is his hobby @Jynx , @Captain24 , so it is nice to see him this afternoon with his photos on the computer

one problem is it is too hot to go out to take new photos at the moment

about routine , I think having the flu for the last week and not sleeping had built up to this point

Hahaha coffee! @Shaz51. I drink energy drinks as I hate coffee. I can have a red bull and go straight to bed. Caffeine does not affect me at all! Even the caffeine tablets some take at work to stay awake!

Photography is a good hobby. I’d be out in the heat as I love it! Too many snakes around here though.

I find being sick messes a lot of things up. I’m missing my routine and struggling without it. But I do have to consider what I do after my surgery. Even though I’m trying to not listen to my body anymore. I need to get structure back to cope with the world.

Oh that's so real @Shaz51 @Captain24 - interruptions to routine can become really challenging hey! Don't realise how much you rely on it till you can't adhere to it 😅
