Managing thoughts of suicide & self-harm

Battles

Battles

Hi all, does anyone else just feel like life is just one big sh!t show? It's just one thing after another, constant drama, family issues, money struggles, stress, anxiety it's just always something.

When do things get easier, do things ever change?

I've been through more than i care to think about in my life but today has pushed me to breaking point and it's bringing up alot of bad memories of previous suicide attempts.

I just feel like it's not worth it, it's not worth fighting, not worth hanging on anymore.

Re: Battles

Hi @Snowflake, here should be ok for now. I've woken up after having a really graphic nightmare, it's left me so shaken and not in a good space. I'm waiting to get through to lifeline currently but for the moment I just really don't want to sit alone.

Re: Battles

You are not alone, i know its a bit quiet here on the forums but I am here with you, what things do you have around you that can remind you where you are and make you feel a bit more comfy and safe

Re: Battles

@Snowflake thankyou. There's not alot around me, I've grabbed my nee doh cube which I'm trying to fidget with but it's hard cos it's so cold here. I knew I had to reach out while I was waiting to get through to lifeline cos I started to SH (don't worry, I'm safe). But things are just really getting the better of me right now. I've got my weighted blanket on me aswell.

Re: Battles

you sound quite resourceful having those things close to you around, is there anything else that can help you warm up a little (hot water bottle) and do you find any type of noise calming- like certain music or even just a show or podcast in the background?

Re: Battles

@Snowflake I'm not cold myself cos my body is in overdrive at the moment. I've got music playing. Really trying to ride this through but I've only had 20 minutes of sleep tonight and all these feelings, emotions and thoughts are so intense right now.

Re: Battles

when you say you like to fidget have you also tried anything like a progressive muscle relaxation- it can be a way of releasing the tension when we are anxious and panicky, it can be tricky to try to interrupt thoughts when they are running a marathon

Re: Battles

@Snowflake i went through 2 different grounding exercises with Beyond Blue before I reached out here, but the exercises didn't help me. One of them was a breathing one and then trying to focus on an object and notice the details, the other was the progressive muscle relaxation one. I've tried to look around and notice different objects and name their colours, i got up and had a drink and splashed some water on my face and walked around my house a few times.

Re: Battles

When you have had other nights like this have there been other things that have helped at all? sometimes other senses like smell can also be grounding too, or do you any other types of things you can fidget with?
