Managing thoughts of suicide & self-harm

Battles

Battles

Hi all, does anyone else just feel like life is just one big sh!t show? It's just one thing after another, constant drama, family issues, money struggles, stress, anxiety it's just always something.

When do things get easier, do things ever change?

I've been through more than i care to think about in my life but today has pushed me to breaking point and it's bringing up alot of bad memories of previous suicide attempts.

I just feel like it's not worth it, it's not worth fighting, not worth hanging on anymore.

@MissGremlinI tend to get calmer at night don't know if it's a good or bad thing? Mornings are toughest for me like having to repeat this reality I find myself in for a whole day again! I get really tired at night and want to sleep but don't want to sleep as I know I'll wake up again feeling this way the next day grrrr so frustrating.

@amonrae04We need to find a way of combining our ways of coping then. I find the nights the hardest. I find my mind just is free to think, free from distractions laying there in the quiet darkness. I do feel the strain of having to go through another whole day again, but it doesn't really hit me until i have to start thinking of going to bed, because i know i wont be able to keep my mind distracted once I do.

MJG017 oh I hate that, it's happened to me so many times.

Yes having the pup does help a little bit but there's also the anxiety over what the future holds with him. There's too many unknowns, can I afford this, will he make it as an assistance dog, what if something happens to him, do I deserve him etc. So yes he is a positive but also very much a big trigger given past history.

@MissGremlin Those unknowns just make things far too hard. I know it's far too difficult to ignore them, so its no fair of me to suggest trying. But the future is unknown, and good things in our lives can disappear, but I see it now as that just meaning it so much more important to enjoy them while we have them in our lives. It must be so hard to not fear a similar thing will happen again with Casper... or some new sh1t life will throw at you both, but as I said, just try to focus on enjoying the now. At the end of the day, it's all we really have.

Hey @MissGremlin I'm here, how's the self care going? Is Casper there with you?

Re: Battles

@MJG017 I don't know if you have or have tried but I usually listen to a podcast when in bed it just keeps my mind focused on something other than my thoughts. When I'm particularly bad I'll listen to a history audio book something about the subject matter and the narrator are soothing for me?

Re: Battles

@MJG017 they really do make things so much harder to just enjoy the now. I'm trying hard to push those fears aside knowing that I had 3 healthy dogs for their whole lives prior to getting her, it just really haunts me the whole experience I had with her. Yes there were good times but once I found out her diagnosis my whole world fell apart and then having to put 2 of my dogs down on the same day already knowing that I was on borrowed time with her just made things so much harder to cope with.

So I'm trying hard to enjoy the now but those unknowns really do complicate things.

@Ru-bee self care wasn't really working out too well. Casper is laying on the floor cos he got too hot snuggling up to me.

Re: Battles

@amonrae04I used to listen to a lot of audiobooks and podcasts before. They tended to either send me to sleep or wake me up even more. It's definitely worth giving them another go though, so thanks. These days i don't usually have much trouble getting to sleep. Now, its seems to be more when i wake up during the night. The thoughts creep in and i find it really hard to get back to sleep as I can't stop worrying.

@MissGremlin

I would feel exactly the same in your position. Putting yourself in a position to go through what you did with the previous dog is a difficult thing for anyone, but so much more so with everything else going on. I get it, and there is no easy answer of course.

But you have him now, he's with you now. Just make the most of it and enjoy these times as much as i'm sure you will. Every time you start to think about the unknowns and what-ifs... go give Capser a quick snuggle. Worst case is he turns out to be one hell of a snuggled dog! And that's not a bad thing.

Re: Battles

@MJG017 yep totally get the waking up at night thing too

I found today just watching some youtube videos with people talking about depression and how they felt makes me feel less crazy like I am not alone, other people feel the same things and this isnt me normally and im hopefully not going to be stuck like this forever

Re: Battles

@MJG017 i just hate that i question and overthink everything. Still haven't found that magic off switch 😂.

He definitely gets lots of snuggles and is very much loved.

I'm about to have to deal with a whole heap of little people asking a million questions and putting their grubby hands on Casper. How do I get myself into these situations 😂.
