Managing thoughts of suicide & self-harm

Battles

Battles

Hi all, does anyone else just feel like life is just one big sh!t show? It's just one thing after another, constant drama, family issues, money struggles, stress, anxiety it's just always something.

When do things get easier, do things ever change?

I've been through more than i care to think about in my life but today has pushed me to breaking point and it's bringing up alot of bad memories of previous suicide attempts.

I just feel like it's not worth it, it's not worth fighting, not worth hanging on anymore.

Re: Battles

@NightFury that's some tough feelings sweet but to get 2 tasks done off your to do list is a huge achievement especially when your focus isn't really there.

Re: Battles

Hey @MissGremlin how did your appt end up going - sounds like she's doing what she can to support you to find another service?

And how are things with your son, and the bday celebrations?

Re: Battles

@Jynx the appointment with my counsellor that I had yesterday was really hard, I spent most of it in tears, the big messy kind of crying. She's fighting so hard to get me the support I need and also to stop her manager from cutting our sessions.

My sons birthday is on the 11th so still a bit of time away.

I made 3 phone calls today, one to my doctors surgery as I forgot to get a script yesterday when i had my appointment. Then I rang the service that said they would do a letter for me (but haven't) to say that I was engaged with a psychologist for 43 sessions and covered DBT and CBT so that I can apply for NDIS again. Then I finally had the courage to ring a psychology place to hopefully get support through them, it went to message bank when I first rang and I panicked and hung up, but then I composed myself and tried again. The place ended up calling me back and now I've sent through my MHCP, it's up to the general manager now if they can offer me support.

I also had a phone call from the mental health team person that was really hard and sent me spiralling with lots of tears (I'm safe). I had a meeting to go to this afternoon which I had to do even though I've had a migraine all day. I'm very much looking forward to my bed tonight.

My counsellor was very proud of me when I told her that I had rang the psychology place and the other service as she knows how hard it is for me. It's something we were going to do together in our next session if I couldn't before then.

I apologise for the long post, that all just can't rushing out 😂.

How are you going sweet?

Re: Battles

@MissGremlin no need to apologise, sounds like it needed to come out!! Always helps to be able to get stuff off our chest, eh?

Sounds like a HUGE day, phone calls can be so so draining hey. But even moreso when they're also triggering! I hope bed doesn't feel too far away 🤞

I'm chugging along as per, got kitties sleeping nearby and some gentle tunes playing. You up to much this evening, some gentle craft or something else very chill I hope!

Re: Battles

@Jynx it does help to get things out.

The phone calls were really hard, I really struggled with the psychology one and the mental health team one.

Chugging along is perfect especially with kitties sleeping nearby and music playing. I've just sat on my bed and have music playing and my diamond art in front of me. I'm about half way done with the dragon now.

Have you got any plans for the Easter long weekend?

Re: Battles

@MissGremlin yeah something about certain types of phone calls that can be super distressing hey - I think partially it's that you can't see the other person so you can't read body language. And then when they're about our mental health it's like a whole extra layer of complicated and stressful. Congrats on surviving the phone call trials of today tho!!

Oh wow they take quite a while don't they? It's cool that you get so much time with each piece - longer time spent in 'flow' and being creative is always good in my books.

Not a lot on the cards for me - which is entirely intentional!! I'll be off work, and whilst I always do miss the forums fam while I'm away, it'll be nice to just spend some time doing nothing. Hopefully get out into nature at some point, my soul is craving it!

What about you?

Re: Battles

@Jynx yes the mental health phone calls really are the hardest ones cos its always bringing up so much trauma. Going through the losses that have happened recently, the housing issues, the problems with sleep, the shut down and manic state, family issues. It really is just alot to go through and having to repeat it so many times is both exhausting and triggering.

They do take a while but it's really satisfying once you've completed them. I like that they take a while to do and it's good when it holds my focus.

Awww we will miss you when you are away but glad you get some time off. Getting out in nature is so good for the soul. I actually really enjoyed getting out in my yard the other day and finding things to take photos of.

My long weekend doesn't have any plans as such but I'm aware it's going to be really tough to get through. I've already told my mental health person, counsellor and gp that I'm worried about how I'm going to cope with it (I'm safe). Just going to take things moment by moment and reach out when I need to. I think the best thing for me will be staying connected here and doing my crafts to keep distracted.

Re: Battles

@MissGremlin the repetition over n over is super hard hey. I'm sorry that it's not easier to get your support needs met hun 😞

I'm glad that you have been ensuring that you've been trying to prepare and that your supports are aware it's gonna be a tough one. And I can imagine you won't be the only one hanging around here - many of the 'big holidays' can be more triggering than not when it comes to folks living with complex mental health challenges.

You got this, and we got you!! 💜

Re: Battles

@Jynx it is really hard. It shouldn't be this hard to get support 😞. Especially when one is actively seeking it, not just expecting it to fall in their lap. I feel like I'm putting in so much effort to get help but I'm constantly hitting brick walls.

I'm trying to make sure everyone is on the same page of where things are currently sitting for me so that if need be things can be put in place to help keep me safe. The big holidays can be very triggering and I'm sure I won't be the only one around here.

Thankyou sweet, I'm so thankful to have this community ❤️.

I'm also missing someone on the forums that means alot to me, (think you probably know who I'm talking about) I've really missed their connection. I know the thing of people take breaks or leave etc but it's just a hard one for me to process given all the other loss I've gone through lately.

Re: Battles

@MissGremlin yeah I do wish it wasn't such a challenge to find the right kind of support hey. Similar to how it shouldn't be so difficult to get onto the NDIS - when one is struggling, that is when one needs things to be SIMPLE. Sigh.

It can be really challenging when someone disappears from the forums, I get it. I dunno if you've come across this post but it might be a helpful read. And it's also okay to feel a sense of grief; loss and bereavement compound and even if it seems like a 'smaller' loss on the surface, it can still have a huge impact.
