Managing thoughts of suicide & self-harm

Battles

Battles

Hi all, does anyone else just feel like life is just one big sh!t show? It's just one thing after another, constant drama, family issues, money struggles, stress, anxiety it's just always something.

When do things get easier, do things ever change?

I've been through more than i care to think about in my life but today has pushed me to breaking point and it's bringing up alot of bad memories of previous suicide attempts.

I just feel like it's not worth it, it's not worth fighting, not worth hanging on anymore.

Re: Battles

@AlwaysMyself please bear with me as I reply to your post, it may be a bit all over the place cos its going to bring up alot of thoughts and feelings.

Thankyou sweet, it's hard to feel glad that I'm still here when the pain and suffering is so much to sit with day in, day out (i know you do get what this is like which really helps).

Ok so the reasons behind my feelings around things are.

This may need a trigger warning.

●

Content/trigger warning

I have a long history of trauma and abuse both past and current (including being raped and physically assaulted while i was in DV relationships).

● You know about my situation with losing my children which is something I struggle to live with knowing how much I messed things up.

● Then there's the anxiety and panic attacks, the day time ones i can tolerate as they are not as severe but the night time ones are completely debilitating, waking up shaking, heart pounding, struggling to breathe and that lasts for hours before it calms down enough to go back to sleep. Sometimes they are triggered by nightmares other times it just happens and it's an every night occurrence which is incredibly exhausting, it's been about 16 months like this now.

● I don't find joy in anything and that's been for as long as I can remember. Colouring, crafts, music etc used to bring me at least a little bit of comfort but now they have become tasks, just a way to keep myself distracted so that I stay safe.

● I have flashbacks on a daily basis that are so severe that I can't work out what's real and what's not. I've tried so many ways to keep myself grounded and to bring myself out of them but the only thing that works is SH.

● Medications not working for me and in fact making things worse causing severe side effects. Like the flashbacks starting after trying a medication and never stopping.

● There's seeing things happening to me in graphic detail and hearing voices telling me to do things to myself in relation to Sui and SH. This was also brought on by medication and hasn't stopped despite my doctor saying it would.

● The current housing situation that I'm in and knowing that I'm about to be homeless, this means losing everything I have and going through something incredibly traumatic again that I just simply cannot face cos this time I wouldn't be able to fix things.

● Being let down by every service possible despite trying so hard to get help. Including a psychologist telling me that I'm a lost cause and that I deserved everything I get, (this was when i was stuck in an abusive relationship) he chose to side with my abusive partner. Various other services have told me that I'm too complex and that they can't help me.

● Losing 4 dogs within a 5 year period including 2 on the same day and then my assistance dog at 3 years old.

There's more things but I'll leave it at that for now.

As for the SI, I've lived with it since I was about 12 years old (I'm 39 now) but it's the severity of it that has increased throughout the years and now it's at a point where it's just constantly there and it's relentless.

Just in case it needs to be said, I'm safe.

Re: Battles

@AlwaysMyself it was his girlfriend that went to New York and brought me the gifts ☺️. They just both came to visit last night which was really nice.

@ENKELI is a sweetheart and I'm grateful for her and everyone's support here ❤️.

Hope you can get some more of your language study assessments done today. That sounds frustrating still waiting for the date/time, hopefully you get one soon so you have something else to do.

Tomorrow sounds like a busy day, but I guess sometimes it can help to keep busy as it's let's chance for the thoughts to creep in. In saying that sometimes I find that if I'm busy all day but then stop those thoughts hit suddenly and hard, obviously not the same for everyone though.

Re: Battles

@MissGremlin sorry sweetheart, I went offline after I sent my last message to you. I hope you managed to get a decent sleep at least.

I will pray for your meeting on Monday with Housing SA. Sometimes miracles occur when we least expect it. I am a realist, I tell myself that I know what the outcome is going to be but I might get a surprise also.

How have you been coping today so far?

I have been tidying my room and clearing up my floordrobe. I have more clothes than I need but the bipolar in me tells me to "buy it, it's a bargain price. It's so pretty, you need it!"

I have been good this time though and have made a pile of clothes to give to the op shop so that's a positive step.

@AlwaysMyself hey gorgeous, how are you? It sounds like you have a busy day tomorrow.

I'm grateful the weather has cooled down but I'd love it even just a few degrees cooler. If it starts with a 3 then it's too hot for me ha ha!

I hope you get to do your language assessment today, and that you get advised of a date for the video/call.

I just got feedback for my assessment and have to review a couple of answers that are deemed incorrect. It's given me anxiety so I am going to leave it for the minute and do something relaxing.

Re: Battles

Hello @ENKELI sweetheart, that's completely ok. It was an up and down night but that's become normal for me. I was hoping to rest and maybe nap today but that didn't happen so I'm very much ready for bed tonight.

Thankyou sweet, I'm really hoping that I get someone that is caring and compassionate and wants to help. I have a support letter from my doctor to give them which states how bad things are with my SI and SH and that if I become homeless things would escalate allowing the inevitable to happen. It's actually pretty daunting to read but my doctor knows exactly where things are at.

Today has been rough, the nbn people were out for quite a while and having to come in and out of my house which was really uncomfortable. Then I had my mother and my ex here at the same time which was uncomfortable to say the least. I'm glad that its almost bedtime as I'm very much looking forward to laying down and snuggling with Casper and hopefully my headache will go away. I did have to laugh at myself before when I grabbed the whisk to cut a pizza 😂.

Oh well done beautiful, you've done amazing to go through things and having a pile to donate is a fantastic effort, super proud of you sweet ❤️.

You can always send some clothes my way, I'm useless at clothes shopping 😂. I run on leggings (which i own a few pairs of the same ones) and the same top just in multiple colours, I don't cope with change but clothing shopping frustrates me cos I feel like nothing fits right or suits me so I avoid it at all costs 😂.

Re: Battles

@MissGremlin happy to send a pile your way except they are probably too big for you. Aside from bipolar, depression and anxiety I also stress about my weight. According to BMI I am obese. I hate myself for being so fat even though I know hormones and medication have a lot to do with it. I had hoped to join the council active centre - it has a pool, gym, sauna and spa - but I can't afford it just yet. And I am useless at motivating myself. When I had my dog I used to walk for a minimum of three quarters of an hr [edited by moderator] each day but when she passed away I stopped walking. I want to be fit for my holiday in October so I know I have to start soon.

Otherwise if you're a plus size I'll bag them up and send them over to you!

Before I forget, what time is your meeting on Monday?

You know what? It's Thursday and you've made it this far. You deserve a pat on the back.

What sort of support pupper is Casper? My dad's last dog was named Casper as well and he was his unofficial emotional support dog. Casper was afraid of storms so when there was inclement weather in the area dad would sleep with Casper in the study. (Stepmonster wouldn't allow Casper in the bedroom and I'm pretty sure dad would have preferred to sleep with Casper rather than stepmonster!)

This is a photo of Casper. He was a mixed breed and dad just adored him.

@ENKELI I'm not exactly small either, having kids changed that. Completely understand the feelings towards yourself for being bigger, it's such a horrible feeling. I don't like to see myself in mirrors cos when I do i feel physically sick at what I'm looking at. Maybe in the future you'll be able to join the council active centre, it can be so hard to find the motivation so don't be too hard on yourself sweet. Awww losing your dog would have had such an impact on things and walking after that wouldn't have felt the same, hugs beautiful ❤️. I have faith in you sweet, you've got this, It's just one little step at a time ❤️.

The meeting is at 11.30am on Monday.

Thankyou sweet, yes I made it to Thursday and so did you, look at us go ☺️.

I really failed today though. I was meant to have a phone appointment with the mental health team but when they rung i panicked and couldn't answer, I was too overwhelmed and not in a good headspace and I just shut down 😞.

Casper is my assistance dog in training, although I've had to put things on hold for the moment. But he's trained to do things like DPT (deep pressure therapy), he interrupts destructive behaviour, he picks up and alerts to my heart rate being too high and also alerts me when I have a seizure coming. Awww your dads last dog being named Casper aswell is special and he sounds like he was an amazing support for your dad. Casper sleeps right on the bed next to me or actually on my pillow 😂.

Awww look at him, that picture is gorgeous, he looks so fluffy 😍

Re: Battles

@MissGremlin lets go back to "I really failed today". No you didn't darling heart. You were overwhelmed. You had 2 strangers in your home for one thing so it's no wonder you didn't answer the phone. I dread answering phone calls too and unless it's a person I trust I let it go to messagebank.
I want you to tell yourself that you survived today, not failed. You overcame a difficult situation. You survived.

I had planned on getting up early and getting the loungeroom tidied up but instead I stayed in bed and slept, so I too had a less than stellar day.
Tomorrow is another day. The mental health team are probably not surprised you didn't answer - they would be used to those of us with mental health problems. It's okay and you're not in trouble because you didn't answer the call.

Kelly was my healing dog. I got her when she was 6 months old after I left my ex who cheated on me (and lied about it, no wonder I don't trust men!). She was the best dog ever and when I consider getting another dog I can't because she literally ruined me for another one. She was 13 when she passed away and every time I see a Border Collie I think of Kelly. I'd never get another working dog while living in the city though. I got her when I was in my 30's and very fit so I was able to give her the exercise she needed. I don't like small dogs so I've just decided I'll stick to cats! The next cat I get though I plan on training them to walk on a leash!

Be kind to yourself sweetheart, you are so very precious xoxo

Re: Battles

@ENKELI thankyou sweetheart. The nbn guys had left by then but I was struggling to calm myself down and the thought of trying to talk about how I was feeling and the thoughts I've been having was just too much to deal with. I'm trying to remind myself that I was looking out for myself and what I needed in that moment but I've worked so hard to get support from someone, anyone and then when it finally happened I panicked. I'm hoping I can ring them tomorrow to explain what happened and make another time to talk to them.

Tomorrow is definitely another day, it sounds like today your body needed rest but you still managed to go through things so you did really well sweet. Unfortunately this mental health team aren't very understanding and will throw it back at you saying that you don't want help if you miss an appointment or phone call. I think it's quite harsh really considering mental health and anxiety go hand in hand so they should understand how hard it can be for someone to show up to an appointment or answer a call sometimes.

Awww Kelly sounds like a very special girl. Totally get you with not trusting men, I'll never enter into a relationship with another one after what I've been through. Hugs sweetheart, i know how hard it is to lose a furbaby and they make such an impact on our lives ❤️. Cats are gorgeous too, unfortunately I'm allergic but it doesn't stop me giving them cuddles. Training one to walk on leash would be so fun and adorable.

I'll try to be and you also be gentle with your wonderful self. Sending so much love and hugs your way beautiful ❤️.
