Life can be a Pain

Life can be a Pain

Hi @BlueBay@Zoe7@Former-Member@Faith-and-Hope@utopia@oceangirl@TAB@Shaz51@PeppiPatty

I know there are more people I could tag but maybe I will think them up as I go along - actually I already have

I think I need my own thread - mostly my problem is chronic pain syndrome - I damaged my spine with the sporting excesses of my youth - a long time ago now - and I managed to rearrange it when I fell of my pushbike in a wind storm nearly 22 years ago and that seems a long time ago now but there is nothing they can do except treat the pain - and I do have Section 8 medication and I see a pain specialist

And the pain has been worse lately and wears me down and I get fed up and very tired -

I have issues with my mother as well - and although she died 2 years ago I still have bad times now and again - she was abusive and as well as I know myself and her this can get to me at times - and this is another reason I opened my own thread

Then there is TS - my Toxic Sister - she was under my skin for a while but not at the moment

So yesterday I felt so bad when I went to see the doctor about my back pain - and my pain specialist has cut my medication back several times over the last few years and she has gone too far - and I started to tell my doctor - yes - I cope with the pain better since my mother died - but it's driving me crackers atm and so are the memories of my mother

So that's it for now - I have had trouble opening this thread for some reason but now I have - I will run my own story - I would like to think I don't need to but yes - I do

You are all such wonderful supportive people - you are my soft place to land - that is so true

And anyone I have missed I will tag as I go along

Lots of hugs everyone

Thanks @Shaz51@Former-Member@Former-Member

I guess I will be reading because I care so much but I really feel sorrow when something I say upsets people and I know I have no control over how other people interpret what I write -

I am having a tough pain day - not the best time to make decisions - but it is good that my absence was noticed - maybe things are not as bleak as I imagined

Re: Life can be a Pain

Hi everyone ..... 💕

This does happen sometimes as a natural part of community interactions ..... just my observation ..... and I agree with @Former-Member in that if everybody is responding and listening with best intentions evident, then there will be moments of trodden-on-toes or hypersensitivity where someone has bitten back, then perhaps forgotten they did so, but the other person carries a sense of injury forward.

Part of tolerance and compassion on the forums needs to be that people can say exactly what both of you have said, expressing how you feel, and we all have the opportunity to think about that and communicate how we feel.

How I feel is that I value you here @Owlunar ..... I am sorry there were a couple of incidents that left you feeling bruised, and I hope those feelings have healed somewhat with the time you have taken out of the forums. I hope they will heal further as you hear from your forum friends and how much you mean to them.

Hugs n hugs Dec ...... good to see you back.

💜💐💕

Agreeing with so many others here @Owlunar you are a kind and wonderful member. I'm not sure of what's happened to upset people (must have missed some things!) but have always enjoyed reading your wonderful supportive posts. We all make mistakes occasionally... or are percieved in ways which we didnt intend... I hope that in time you will feel ok to continue posting as naturally as you have in the past. You really are valued here!
Hugs if you want any

Thanks so much everyone - for what you have written - it does help a wounded soul and that's how I feel right now

I am constantly aware of how fragile people here are - I am emotionally fragile myself - a professional dx that certainly fits - and I am also hard to offend so when someone dies get under my armour it hurts me just as much as it would hurt anyone

It's never my intention to hurt anyonw

And sorry Mohill - it has happened to you again - ah man - it does hurt - doesn't it - and if I was sure I would be active in the forum again I would start such a thread - because people may not always think - and how can we tell - I guess it needs airing and discussion

But not for me to do today - the medication I am taking for the arthritic pain I have right now is giving me a massive headache - well - tiring moreso - this is one day I have to let pass - and I have been unhappy about all of this over the last few days - not really knowing what to do about it

It is wonderful to be appreciated and to have it known - that hasn't happened enough in my life but is has happened enough for me to know about it - thanks so much

I still haven't made up my mind - time to let it past - I don't feel any animosity -

Re: Life can be a Pain

Hiya @Owlunar, @Former-Member. @Former-Member and everyone else passing through.

i just wanted to add my 20cents in here too. I think the forum is a really tricky place to be sometimes because we deal with huge diversity all the time. I have hurt some on here and been hurt by some too. I know both will happen again because we are all human doing the best we can. The last few months have been really tricky for me regarding my own mental health but how to manage the forum too. I have had to bring it up in therapy to work out how to deal with some things because they were outside my very protected little self isolating bubble.

One of the things I've struggled with immensely is how to respond to everyone equally. I am aware that there appears to be cliques on the forum. From my perspective now I think it's just part of life. There will always be people we gravitate towards for a great variety of reasons. I know I do. I don't think it is any different when we are using a forum setting that seeks to connect people. I also think that some of the friendships that have developed on the forum have come from a great deal of mutual support, lots of give and take. Personally I am trying to just go with the flow and come back where I can and when I can. At the moment this is really inconsistent and I'm not getting across as many threads as I once did. I'm trying hard to accept this is ok (sorry an all about me part 😳:face_with_rolling_eyes:). It gets tricky sometimes though. @Former-Member I can sense that you very much also see some of variations in responses in posts and I feel your sense of justice and no one gets left behind. It has torn me up a few times too. I think in the end we can only do what we can without burning out or making our mental health suffer more.

I know I've also struggled with lots of things in the past like posting in crisis and then getting some responses but not responding myself or very few responses because I was so one tracked at the time. For me this has bought lots of guilt. I also know in crisis there are a few members that have a good understanding how to 'calm my farm' at the time and I look to them for support. I think with huge emotion swings (such as with BPD traits) it also gets really messy. At the time of distress it is easy to let off whatever is in your head, after the fact comes the guilt for doing that. The hard thing is in two days time it often is hard to remember what you were so distressed over. For me personally I have found when I've tried to go back and respond after the fact I've often had so much shame for the crisis I can't re read it or acknowledge it. This was a huge part of the reason I abandoned my struggle thread. It was a constant reminder of how much I lived in constant crisis and therefore also great shame (more all about me :face_with_rolling_eyes::face_with_rolling_eyes::face_with_rolling_eyes:). I guess in a more general sense someone who may have been hurt at the time by a post may not necessarily carry that same emotion forward. They may lash out at the time but then get over it.

@Owlunar I have an idea of the issues that have caused you to feel the way you do. I don't know for sure but I am guessing. I know you were offering support at the time and thought you were doing the right thing. I can understand how you would feel bewildered too. I don't believe bridges have been burned although this is only my guess as I'm not the person involved, it's the feeling I get. Please don't let any of this stop you from being you on here. I have only ever seen you try to have members backs here, sometimes in a very protective way. I'm sorry you've had trouble with pain lately again. I hope as this weather warms up.....if it ever does.......you'll get some reprieve from the pain. Thinking of you with this.

I guess I just want to reiterate that no one (including mods) gets it right on the forum 100% of the time but we are all just trying the best we can. I think on the forum like in life there will be times when we unintentionally hurt someone and times where we are unintentionally hurt. There are times that misunderstandings can be patched up and times when they can't and we just need to let it go (much easier said than done). For me the only time that we can't tolerate it is when the hurt is deliberate or intended. I totally agree with @Former-Member in that communication based only on written words is really tricky sometimes, we lose so much of it. It's also really hard to tell if the person writing the post is tired or unwell too at the time, sometimes this doesn't help with communicating well (a big one for me).

Well I think I got more than 20c in. Wishing you all the best 💜🤗💐

Re: Life can be a Pain

Hi @Teej

Thanks for that wonderful post - I deeply appreciated it - and you are so right - it was so helpful I cried with relief to be understood - I have decided to cut back on how much time I spend here and I am not getting notifications - and this should cut back the amount of work

I don't try to be fair with my posting here - I guess I have about 10 people I interact with - this changes of course but to be fair I feel I can only cope with a few stories at a time and do it well - and I have tried to do it well - even when there have been times when I have had to leave a post for a couple of days before getting back to it

I am aware that you live in a state of near continuous (continual - which ever works) anxiety so I appreciate the time you gave me for your 20 cents worth - I was feeling sorrow - I had hurt people unintentionally and don't know what to do about that - but it seems from you and from others that I have learned that what I write is helpful and this is what I intend and I try to understand

Thanks again for that post - it is truly wonderful - I am so glad you did
