Life can be a Pain

Life can be a Pain

Hi @BlueBay@Zoe7@Former-Member@Faith-and-Hope@utopia@oceangirl@TAB@Shaz51@PeppiPatty

I know there are more people I could tag but maybe I will think them up as I go along - actually I already have

I think I need my own thread - mostly my problem is chronic pain syndrome - I damaged my spine with the sporting excesses of my youth - a long time ago now - and I managed to rearrange it when I fell of my pushbike in a wind storm nearly 22 years ago and that seems a long time ago now but there is nothing they can do except treat the pain - and I do have Section 8 medication and I see a pain specialist

And the pain has been worse lately and wears me down and I get fed up and very tired -

I have issues with my mother as well - and although she died 2 years ago I still have bad times now and again - she was abusive and as well as I know myself and her this can get to me at times - and this is another reason I opened my own thread

Then there is TS - my Toxic Sister - she was under my skin for a while but not at the moment

So yesterday I felt so bad when I went to see the doctor about my back pain - and my pain specialist has cut my medication back several times over the last few years and she has gone too far - and I started to tell my doctor - yes - I cope with the pain better since my mother died - but it's driving me crackers atm and so are the memories of my mother

So that's it for now - I have had trouble opening this thread for some reason but now I have - I will run my own story - I would like to think I don't need to but yes - I do

You are all such wonderful supportive people - you are my soft place to land - that is so true

And anyone I have missed I will tag as I go along

Lots of hugs everyone

Re: Life can be a Pain

No white chocolate for me @Owlunar Not on my list of things I like ...but may treat myself tomorrow to some Maltesers - they seem to be my go to comfort food occasionally.

I don't understand the specialist situation either - it really is a broken system down here and this just adds to the confusion and lack of care in so many areas. My Dad's GP is relatively new so he does not know my Dad well but hoping he can give him some answers and a better level of care than he has received so far.

I hope you can get the implants Mumma Bear - so much to endure along the way though and with my own teeth issues of late I can fully empathise with how much difference it can make. I am back to the dentist next week - it was not an urgent case so I have had to wait ...but along the way my tooth that needs filling has become more unmanageable so next week cannot come quick enough.

Just looking at this song cycle and thought of you @Owlunar

Its worth looking at the translation, as the words and intent are very beautiful.

You may already be aware of it.

Thanks Apple - I feel that might be an acquired taste - I listened to some of it and could translate enough - maybe Kindertortenlieder would be applicable for someone at a different stage of their gift - I am actually still listening to it and can understand enough German to get the gist of it - it's incredibly beautiful and incredibly sad. I have left that behind though - and I must say when that I felt that deeply after my son died.

I wrote a lot of poetry after he died- maybe sometime I will post some - I found a whole folder of it recently - I wouldn't write like that now though I know some of it is very good poetry.

I wrote a villanelle - My God - My God - be there when Sparrows Fall - to have it translated into German (it wouldn't rhyme then though) would be brilliant - and then sung in the style of Mahler would be unique - and wonderful.

So - thanks again - as this keeps playing I am getting used to it and it's growing on me

No worries @Owlunar ... just thought of you ... I bet your poetry is good ... love the title of your vilanelle ... it is a tricky form.

Hi Apple - the music did grow on me as I listened to it - I do remember that time of my life.

@Zoe7 @Shaz51 @Oaktree @EternalFlower @tonys - I haven't forgotten you Tony - up there on Moon Base 1.

Here is a poem I wrote a few months after my son died - it's a villanelle - a highly structured item - one of the best pieces I wrote and it hasn't been published so it's safe to include here.

My God - my God - be there when Sparrows Fall

My God - my God - be there when sparrows fall.

Young men should throw their weight in time and space.

But I am frail and cannot bear it all.

Young men can barely hear you call.

They hurl their angry moment in your face.

My God - my God - be there when sparrows fall.

Our time has limits on this earthly ball.

We change our earthly frames for heaven's race.

But I am frail and cannot bear it all.

My son has gone beyond earth's darksome thrall.

Lord - he is gone and left no earthly trace.

My God - my God - be there when sparrows fall.

Lord - men can sing and stand with angels tall

And leave a memory as fine as lace.

But I am frail and cannot bear it all.

Men fallen can unto your mercy crawl

And ask fair mercy of your perfect grace.

My God - my God - be there when sparrows fall

For I am frail and cannot bear it all.

Apple - the Kindertortenlieder would have fitted in with my life back in 1986 - thanks for posting that link.

Ouch @Zoe7

You do not need toothache - I really feel for you - you have had enough stuff happening this year - you need a "little bit of blooming luck" - which comes from My Fair-Lady - I think.

We can lose our teeth from sheer bad luck - not neglect - and it seems so tough that we have to put up with all of this - I have a bad bite - had big fillings back in the days when dentists were over-zealous with big fillings with fast drills - and I grind my teeth - so yes - from a different point of view you do have my empathy - luckily - for now - my teeth aren't aching much - it's just hard to chew - and all of this is just for a few weeks when for a week or more I won't be able to chew at all - I am stocking up on packet soup should I not feel like cooking much for a day or three.

And I hope you can get this troublesome tooth fixed which possibly means an extraction. I will have a litter of kittens for you if you like - and I am used to that when it comes to extractions. Aw - yes. And I am sure I will be in the same state on 17th of August - so a bit of autohypnosis could help. I have done that before.

White chocolate is among my favourites Zoe - but not good for my digestion. I have to keep the level of fat low - I'm not allergic to it - just sensitive - but I so love it. Maltesers are fine though - I think there are white ones around - and white Tim Tams - aw yum - I also like raspberries, vanilla flavoured anything and caramel - salted is best - and roast lamb which I will be having on my birthday - cooking a roast is a bit excessive when I live on my own.

I have had a lot of appointments lately - the rest of this week seems quiet though - and maybe I will get to the public library and have my membership renewed. It's nice having a day to myself now and again.

It's great you have the school holidays starting next week - our schools are out this week - which was fortunate as my dental Xray was at a time when schools were getting out when I was on my way home - that was good - and I really enjoyed the trip in and out of the city - this autumn our trees have kept their coloured leaves until nearly the end of June - so it was beautiful

Sending more gentle and energy-giving hugs Zoe

Ach @Owlunar your poem is exquisite. Thank you.

Glad you appreciated the music.

1986 was my hell year.

So many deaths.

Maybe our sharing can underscore how far we have both come in a our grief journeys.

I have had the music for a while and am keeping mind active so thought to look at it for todays singing session. Keeping voice in fine fettle for concert on weekend.

Dankeshoen Apple

Music keeps me grounded - though I don't have a radio or CD player atm - I do listen to it on my phone though.

I love Tallis - Simon and Garfunkel - Bach - Mozart and Handel - and other baroque composers. Ah - do Simon and Garfunkel fit in with those other composers? Anyway - I don't really care

I played classical piano when I was younger - my arthritic fingers and damaged shoulder make it too hard now - I have an electronic keyboard - actually - I know ivory piano keys are probably not the thing now but I don't like playing on plastic keys - it's definitely not the same touch.

I sang in a choir for years - first soprano - I still sing a lot - I am nearly over-the-hill but I can still hit the high notes

Thanks again Apple - keep in good voice - I would love to attend your performances - but alas - we cannot share that information.

I keep reading Dances with Wolves over and over again - I'm on my fourth read through since I got it a few months ago - I just love that story.

Keep well

Morning @Owlunar @Zoe7 @Appleblossom @Oaktree …. ☕️💕

Hoping there is some better news around your Dad today @Zoe7🦋 Feeling for you very much. I am quiet at the moment, feeling exhausted, and unsure whether my posts are being tracked. I am about to visit my Dad again, because I am on uni break and I can, but it takes a day to drive there, and another day to drive back. Sending you lots of ❤️.

Love that you are sharing your poetry @Owlunar 🦉 ❣️ especially with @Appleblossom 🌸. I am here, even though I am quiet, struggling with burnout, and loving the support I am seeing between the community. My fur-baby is kneading my shoulder as I am trying to type ….

@Oaktree 💕
