Life can be a Pain

Life can be a Pain

Hi @BlueBay@Zoe7@Former-Member@Faith-and-Hope@utopia@oceangirl@TAB@Shaz51@PeppiPatty

I know there are more people I could tag but maybe I will think them up as I go along - actually I already have

I think I need my own thread - mostly my problem is chronic pain syndrome - I damaged my spine with the sporting excesses of my youth - a long time ago now - and I managed to rearrange it when I fell of my pushbike in a wind storm nearly 22 years ago and that seems a long time ago now but there is nothing they can do except treat the pain - and I do have Section 8 medication and I see a pain specialist

And the pain has been worse lately and wears me down and I get fed up and very tired -

I have issues with my mother as well - and although she died 2 years ago I still have bad times now and again - she was abusive and as well as I know myself and her this can get to me at times - and this is another reason I opened my own thread

Then there is TS - my Toxic Sister - she was under my skin for a while but not at the moment

So yesterday I felt so bad when I went to see the doctor about my back pain - and my pain specialist has cut my medication back several times over the last few years and she has gone too far - and I started to tell my doctor - yes - I cope with the pain better since my mother died - but it's driving me crackers atm and so are the memories of my mother

So that's it for now - I have had trouble opening this thread for some reason but now I have - I will run my own story - I would like to think I don't need to but yes - I do

You are all such wonderful supportive people - you are my soft place to land - that is so true

And anyone I have missed I will tag as I go along

Lots of hugs everyone

Great news about the knee @Owlunar.
Terrible joke. Reminds me of ones my dad would tell us when we were young. Lol.
Yes your appetite will come back. Until then, lots of water and maybe dry crackers or a cup-of-soup may be enough.
We had the storm come through before 5pm. Was refreshing. I stood out in it (hot flush - needed cooling down). You should get a beautiful breeze tonight.
Take care.

omstars @Former-Member

Do I read this right? you have been in hospital with chest pain and had the works - expecting this because your girl's birthday would have been tomorrow?

I understand - I get it - I got my turn coming - and I feel a deep sense of being in this with you - oh yeah

I think I found some flowers - the cyber cliparty kind that say so much - sending them with my love and caring a lot about all of this - I'm so sorry you had to get sick with all of this

Re: Life can be a Pain

I am definitely sending this problem to the complaints department at the hospital I was in -

I had excellent treatment after my operation but before - okay - I found I had a questionaire in my mail last night and it asked if I had pain before the operation and I did - major back-pain and wow - so glad I can have my say about this

Instead of being taken to a room to settle in a bed to rest I had to sit in the waiting room - my operation was scheduled for 10.30am and I was already dehydrated and actually didn't have my operation until after noon

And my back pain was out of control - I mentioned this several times - I have never been confronted with sitting for hours prior to surgery like this and after a while they did find me a space in the place people wait before their operations and got a trolley for me to lie on but this was weird - seriously

Before they got the trolley they told me I might be better standing up rather than sitting down - of course I agreed with them but they had taken my crutches and I was getting giddy from dehydration and low-blood sugar - and the back pain as well - and then they took my bag with my wallet etc and told me I was not supposed to bring valuables into the hospital - and what!!! like I had to pay that surcharge and I was told that "Most people have someone bring them in" and my daughter had to go to work and how does anyone work there way around such a problem when they are strung out?

So - this was the bad part - yes I got my valuables back safely and they got me a trolley etc - but in all my years I have never had to wait for an operation sitting up like that and after reading the quesionaire I feel really cross about that

But I will complain - I will fill in the questionaire but also write to the hospital about that long wait which was no doubt unavoidable and not having anywhere to lie down

I am ranting but I am allowed - somehow the questionaire has got to me but I will act on this -

Hi @utopia

I understand the "change" Utopia - that is a rough time of life - women seem to get all the yukky stuff and yet we are probably stronger and tougher for it but the changes we have to go through are not at all easy

When I was going through it I had HRT - little pellets in my leg every year or so and this was easier but yes - now and again I would sorta melt in my chair with that feeling I was turning into a chocolate frog someone left on the car seat on a hot day - and then sat on - like yes - terrible joke department working this morning

But because of having HRT I didn't have much trouble really - I did get itchy skin but when do I not have itchy skin?

My mother though - when I was going through it she huffed at me - "I didn't have any trouble - I just got on with it" and I had to say "That's not what I remember Mum"

I didn't remind her that in the middle of winter she would suddenly rush around opening all the doors and windows and shouting at us that we were terrible people and it was all our fault that the temperature in the house was so high

But you do indeed have my empathy

I'm glad you got the change last night - the storms seemed to be north-east of Melbourne mostly but they were also dotted around the suburbs - and in the Central District - and what a storm that must have been!!

Companion Cat came out from under the cedar chest in good time though it was still thundering - and we had heavy rain overnight as well and I think hail too

I had new gutters and downpipes put in during the week - I am in Government Housing and they are into fixing things here atm - but this time with the heavy rain I didn't have gallons of rain-water all around the outside -

I am feeling better - I need to prepare a meal for myself before I get tired an achey later in the day - I hope my appetite will return quickly but yes - I did eat a couple of sandwiches and had a cup of soup - I still feel a little disconnected

I asked my case worker for a social visit over the weekend - they used to give me those and it is a long time since I had one - but I think this was too hard - she didn't ring back

Enjoy the cool breezes when you can Utopia - they are one of the things I really like about Melbourne

Re: Life can be a Pain

Your timing with having the new gutters installed was perfect @Owlunar. Sounds like really heavy rain down your way. Ours was only a light storm. Lots of thunder and lighting but not much rain.
I'm only at the beginning of 'The Change' - haven't officially hit Menopause yet. But yes my skin is itchy. I'm sweating and waking through the night. And I just can't control my body temperature at all.
I think if men suffered period pains and menopausal symptoms - then there would be a 'cure'. Lol.
I hope you enjoy your day. And I hope you do get a social visit. It's important we are not alone all the time.

HI @utopia@Former-Member@outlander@Faith-and-Hope

It's Monday again and I wish everyone the best week possible - and ouch - it's looks as if someone clipped the clipart pic - them's the breaks

I have been sleeping a lot over the weekend - it seemed I just woke up to go back to sleep again but I feel a lot better today - and I can walk without a limp though it's still a bit uncomfortable - I had a chat with the surgeon's nurse and she said to keep taking the medication for now - not that I have been taking all that much

But sleep 💤 oh yes - this is a great way to pass the time

My daughter became ill when she was here last week and it seems she has the flu - not good at all - she is concerned I might have caught it off her - maybe my sleepiness was part of my body fighting the flu but let's hope my resistance is fighting that off

I will try and catch up with everyone - but I have to out soon - Lapses - I am thinking of you with your daughter's 20th birthday - wow - how fast time can go and your girl will always be young and beautiful and never get old - at least I thinking of my boy that way and he would have been 48 next week - and he will never have wrinkles but always have acne - Thinking of your Lapses and your girl and your son as well

Hi @utopia

Just imagine men having a period every few weeks - I can hardly visualise how that would be - I have to remember not all men are icky like that but wow - how many do not want to have the snip and women have a GA to take the responsibility when they have enough children - sigh - anyway,,,,

The change - yes - I am on the older side of all of that now and glad I am past it - I did a lot of sport when I was younger and that stands me in good stead - my bones are in excellect condition and my wonky knee is still structurally sound in spite of all the arthritis and 3 arthroscopies -

But still many people suffer with the change - which is quicker to type than menopause -

That itchiness you have - that I had - is called formication because it feels like being sprayed with formica which is the chemical that ants produce

I didn't get the social visit - perhaps it was good that I didn't because I slept all the time - I feel okay today - Monday's a good days for me - I have busy weeks but the weekends are pretty quiet and most of the time I am fine but this weekend past seems to have been rather strange

I have to get up to the shops for some things - I haven't walked that far for ages but I really need some milk so I will be back soon (or later)

Re: Life can be a Pain

There is a YouTube video in existence of two men hooked up to a machine that simulates birth contractions for them. I reckon it ought to be compulsory for expectant fathers ......

Re: Life can be a Pain

@Owlunar - I think sleeping is just what your body needed. Well done for listening to it.
Over time you will be able to reduce the pain meds, but use them now if your body needs them.
God. If men had periods, tampons and pafs would be free. We would be given a week off work every month.
Could you imagine it? Men can't even handle acold. Lol.
