Movies/ books as therapy

Movies/ books as therapy

Does anyone here find the feeling of getting stuck into a good story therapeutic?

That could be film, books, an album etc

I personally really love it when it feels like I find a story at the right time in my life and it speaks to me.

I may relate to the character/s, the themes, or the overarching messages, and often this helps me to understand or gain insight on something.

Regarding The Stand by Stephen King.

Book was written in 1978.

Original TV Mini-series of the book. 1994.

There's very good actors in it. Very "good" vs "bad" and can get preachy a fair bit, so if you are triggered by religious-type content I would give it a miss. King seems to do that in many of his older works though.

It's old enough to have a "where are they now?" feature done, also on YouTube.

Anyway, its vintage and if you watch it, hope you enjoy it.

Wishing you all the best!

Nice @Meredyth49 🙂

How'd you enjoy the movie?

Thinking of you and hope you are okay.

@tyme Good thanks!

It was not the first time I had seen it, I watch certain movies routinely. The Stand is one of them, as it had been a while since I had seen it. Rewatching shows gives me a sense of familiarity and comfort because I know how it ends.

I was chatting to a friend today mentioning it, and she was gobsmacked that it was on YouTube, in its entirety, for free. Also quite a few others as well on there - Storm of the Century, The Langoliers. Probably more.

A free movie app is called Tubi, which has some good movies too. Surprisingly not too many ads for the free version. My favourites there at the moment are Nefarious, and The Dinner. Both have occult themes; not everyone is into those types of movies, so I will forever be giving a disclaimer for some of my tastes in movies and music.

Some movies are admittedly B-grade, but sometimes I enjoy them just because of that reason. Horror humour is so preposterous I can't help but laugh. When a movie falls into the "So bad it is good" genre.

Very diverse tastes about practically everything is the best way to describe me.

Never heard of Tubi @Meredyth49 . I feel like having a squizz, but then again, I prob won't watch anything.

Any book suggestions? What sort of books do you like @Meredyth49 ?

@tyme Re:Tubi - If anything, I go through the selections, then 2 hours later.... undecided, too tired to watch anything, then time for sleep. 😆

I'm just checking out another app now, called Plex - it has an older series on it from first glance. Farscape (low-grade sci-fi) and Z Nation (dystopian zombie world).

I've never heard of 2 seasons called "The Hunger" from 1997 (vampire). I might try that to see how it goes.

Books - off-beat humour, occult humour (Robert Rankin), Mad Magazine, assorted vintage comics, anything on the occult, magic, mysticism, ancient & world religions, spirituality, crystals, alternative and natural therapies, Arts & Crafts, various artists & their works, latest scientific & medical research on nootopics, the nature of consciousness, various poetry, original fairytales, Enid Blyton, Anne Rice, anything by Dostoevsky. That's all I can think of from memory, there's probably more. I don't have the focus to read a lot right now.

I hope you have a good night however you spend it. 🙂

Lol @Meredyth49 ! I agree that I spend more time scrolling than watching anything! So so true for many people I reckon. Does that frustrate you? Or is it a bedtime routine to help you get to sleep?

Anyway, catchya next time my dear!

@fruitisgood the series that meant a lot to me was Orange is the New Black, the prison drama. I felt like I was part of the in crowd. It was sad when it all ended.

Gypsy on Netflix starring the home grown talent, Naomi Watts, kept me on 'the edge of my seat' but was, suprisingly not, at least, not yet, renewed for a second season.

@Misty5 Another one is Doctor Sleep, which is the follow on from The Shining, where the boy from that is now a man and the story continues. It's quite a long movie, but I enjoyed it.

Wishing you the best!
