Something’s not right

Don’t want to accept the pain

Don’t want to accept the pain

Why can’t I pretend the pain isn’t real, maybe if I tell myself I’m okay and I don’t struggle with mental health I’ll be okay. Maybe if I tell myself that the traumatic memories aren’t real, then I can finally feel whole and less gross. Maybe I’ll just wake up from this dream soon and I’ll find peace within my mind when I do wake up. Maybe I’m okay, maybe there isn’t anything wrong with me

@Jynx not so good when you're having a crappy day to begin with, I can say hours later the body flashbacks have not left, stubborn little beasts. It was so hot and I had to walk. I got what I needed, a referral and random stuff from the chemist. I love those scented hand washes and body washes and my sister sort of had a face cleanser emergency. My sister ran out of face cleanser and forgot to ask my dad to pick it up on the weekend

@creative_writer Wow, a doozy of a day! Did your sister's cleanser emergency come with a hearty dose of emotional labour on your part? Ach that sucks about the body flashbacks darlin, hope you're able to be super gentle with your bod tonight. Gentle stretches always good!

Re: Don’t want to accept the pain

@Jynx I had a GP appointment, and the chemist is right next to the clinic. When I was at the clinic I was like why not buy some lavender scented hand and body wash, I was already there. Though they were 1 litre bottles, so not exactly lightweight. I went with the intention of buying cleanser, but came out with 2 one litre bottles along with it.

It’s been hours, my body still feels odd. My body isn’t over feeling it yet.

Maybe I should see how things go with therapy, but I do feel pressurised in healing in 10 sessions. 10 sessions is all you get from Medicare. The gap fees are already expensive enough, and my private health insurance cover is not high enough to cover psychology

Re: Don’t want to accept the pain

@creative_writer aye the 10 session limit is absolutely ridiculous. Ugh.

But maybe if you see it as 'trying to heal in 10 sessions', that might put pressure on you to try to force your progress... Maybe look at it like 'let's see what we can uncover within these 10 sessions' or something.

I also was thinking about your post from the other day - you could always let your new therapist know all of these concerns up front? Like literally say 'I am feeling really nervous, I really just want you to like me but I've also had so many experiences in therapy that have meant this whole process just feels completely overwhelming.' It gives them lots of info and a starting point to building that sense of trust and safety

Just in case, I will say night night now - mayhaps catch you tomorrow? 💜

Re: Don’t want to accept the pain

@Jynx 10 sessions isn’t much. I feel like Medicare should have a higher rebate for psychs too. I’m seeing an ed and dev psych, their rebates are lower than clinical psychs are. But ed and dev psych have so much valuable knowledge on ND.

I know therapy looks different for everyone, but I don’t want to need therapy for the rest of my life. Maybe one day. I do realise many people with bipolar may need to go in and out of therapy depending on their life circumstances.

I can start slowly and talk about my anxieties around therapy. It’s probably common for those of us with social anxiety and RSD. Sometimes I fear people don’t like me

Re: Don’t want to accept the pain

@creative_writer yeah I think I only get like $90 back from my $270 psych sessions, it's soooo ridiculous. Totally makes therapy affordable, thanks medicare!! SMH. If it weren't for the fact that she's a) REALLY GOOD and challenges me in all the right ways, and b) has very similar spiritual ideology (which is sooo important for me) I'd have ditched her after two sessions.

Yeah I totally feel you. I think where I've landed is like... therapy can be both a way to work through the heavy stuff, and a way for me to continue working on my personal and spiritual development. When it's the former, I might increase frequency of sessions, when it's the latter, greatly decrease or cease altogether for a time.

Yeah I'd say if she's a specialist in ND issues too she'd be suuuper understanding and all too familiar!! Be a helpful spot to start mayhap 😊

Re: Don’t want to accept the pain

@Jynx it is ridiculous how much psychs can get back. I know many psychs can no longer afford bulk billing the clients, which is understandable as everything has become so expensive. Psychiatrist appointments on top of that does make mental health even more expensive. I’ll just have to make do with the 10 sessions. Then again, maybe with the right therapist, significant progress can be made within the 10.

Therapy can have different purposes at different points. I think at this point it’s clear I need to process the heavy stuff. Though I struggle at times to find the language.

ND was one of her specialities. Ed and Dev psychs tend to get lots of training on ND. Someone told me they get even more training on testing than clinical psychs do.

Re: Don’t want to accept the pain

Ugh it's true hey @creative_writer psychs gotta eat too, this price gouging is literally so horrendous.

Yeah I'm sure you can make the most of the time!! You might be surprised by how much you can uncover in 10 sessions!

Having that specialist knowledge sounds like it will be super valuable too!

Re: Don’t want to accept the pain

@Jynx making a living is so hard in Australia. I'm lucky I am still with family, I can't afford living alone.

Maybe the last psych wasn't the right fit, that is why 10 sessions felt inadequate. I think it was a personality thing too. My last psych had training in trauma and ND. It is true though the current one has worked with CASA before too, maybe I need specialised SA therapy. I think I am pretty anxious about telling her about SA, it always makes my heart race to tell a new support
