Something’s not right

Don’t want to accept the pain

Don’t want to accept the pain

Why can’t I pretend the pain isn’t real, maybe if I tell myself I’m okay and I don’t struggle with mental health I’ll be okay. Maybe if I tell myself that the traumatic memories aren’t real, then I can finally feel whole and less gross. Maybe I’ll just wake up from this dream soon and I’ll find peace within my mind when I do wake up. Maybe I’m okay, maybe there isn’t anything wrong with me

Re: Don’t want to accept the pain

@Jynx how would you treat yourself. I’m going to give myself a little head massage right now to ease the pain and increase circulation.

I have no idea. I’m not even sure how often to see my psych. I was seeing my last one once a month, but it did feel like it was too spaced out. I do have only 10 sessions covered by Medicare and seeing her more often will make the sessions go by quickly

@creative_writer Hmmmm ice-cream! Or a krispy kreme donut hehe. But I mean it doesn't have to be dessert, a massage sounds pretty lush actually!! I should book massages after my sessions... hahaha

I gotta dash!! All the best tomorrow, hope it goes swimmingly!! 💜

Hey @creative_writer just wanted to pop by and say hey. I've been thinking about you today and I really hope your appointment goes/went well!

Re: Don’t want to accept the pain

@Jynx nothing wrong with a treat. I bought stuff last night 🤣. Massages can be amazing. I have never had a body massage because I’m just sensitive to touch. But I love massaging my own head and neck, especially with essential oils. I hope the sleep fairies came for you tonight. The insomnia fairies paid me a visit before the sleep ones did. My head is feeling more heavy.

@Jynx @Ru-bee the appointment went well. I didn’t dive in too much in details. I am thinking of mentioning more of the childhood trauma stuff too. I would argue talking about how my mum’s mental health has affected mine is harder than SA. I think there is a guilt factor because she showered me with love growing up. But I have seen her suicidal when I was young. My parents have gotten into intense arguments before which ended with my mum becoming suicidal

Oh I'm so glad that it went okay @creative_writer Totally understandable to not want to dive into everything in the first session, it can be helpful to have a bit of a foundation of trust and understanding first. When do you see them next?

What's on for the rest of the day? I always try to schedule my therapy sessions with an afternoon/evening of soothing activities

Re: Don’t want to accept the pain

@Ru-bee I see her again in two weeks time. I’m resting up this afternoon, have a migraine. I’m currently in bed.

I think my brain is thinking. I feel guilty talking about SA, but I feel even guiltier talking about my own family. Years of not having my emotional needs met and years of my mum getting heightened due to mental health struggles has affected me. The thing is, if it’s family you’re more likely to close your eyes and push it away. The same parents that love you can unintentionally hurt you emotionally. Maybe I need sleep, I just want to stop thinking so much

Re: Don’t want to accept the pain

Yeah I think that its completely understandable to be having all of these thoughts come up after meeting with a new psychologist @creative_writer

Oof sorry to hear you're nursing a migraine too! Yeah maybe a nap would help, what do you reckon?

Re: Don’t want to accept the pain

@Ru-bee there is a lot to unpack, though I am afraid. I can go at my own pace. I feel guilty about some of the resentment I experienced towards my parents. Feeling silenced is painful. Having to protect my parents from my emotions is hard, there is the fear what if my parents can’t handle it, what if I send my mum on edge. It’ll be my fault.

I wish I could nap, but I am not usually a napper, it’s very hard to take a nap when it’s so bright outside

Re: Don’t want to accept the pain

I can really relate to those feelings @creative_writer I really struggled with my mum, especially when I was still living at home. She had her own struggles but she didn't seek support for it and often her feelings were so big there wasn't any space for anyone else to have their own. Any time I'd be hurt or upset by something that she said or did suddenly she was even more hurt and upset and it felt like I had to apologise to her.

It can feel suffocating living in an environment like that, and it's completely understandable to need to talk about it. I know that for me talking about it with a psychologist has really helped, I hope that it can be helpful for you too

Hiya @creative_writer!!

Oooh have you tried one of those massage guns? I got one of the cheap ones from Kmart, was like $80 or something and OH MY STARS it's so good!! Perfect for neck too, and I use it to give my jaw muscles a bit of attention, cos I clench sooooo much 😅

Glad to hear your appt went well hun!! What was the vibe like, did you feel heard and understood?

I've had similar kinds of thoughts about my own parents... like for a long while there I genuinely thought I was totally messed up and ungrateful for having MHI despite the fact that like, on the surface it all seemed chill. I think as well like, the parts of us that were wounded by our parents are a LOT younger, so it might be why it's much harder to talk about - it's like we're talking from a 'less mature' part of our brains.
