Regaining my spark

Regaining my spark

I thought I would start a thread that was positive and helps other forum members in their recovery process, and that we could help each other to wellness. I know a good description of my depression is that I have lost my spark but I am determine to get it back!!!

I wish you well in retrieving your spark @oceangirl. It's a great expression. What would be the first step with this mission?

@Former-Member Thanks for your message. I think the expression helps me understand my depression and how it has impacted me. I believe through understanding I am able to develop compassion and self care for myself and think that is essential in overcoming this illness.

You have asked a great question- and I think the first step is to know the signs and symptoms of depression. The first step is to recognize the symptoms. Not all these symptoms are present in every person who has major depression, but many of them are.

Hi @oceangirl

Great thread. And a great description - losing that inner spark when life can overwhelm. The light may be dim but it will never be snuffed out. You will get that spark back!

Wish you luck.I get what I call a "tsunami of hopelessness",which I have had bad today,it destroys any spark.Does anyone get this ,or similar? It doesnt matter how well I know my depression, this I cannot control along with the severe tiredness when I get hit by it.

Thanks @Former-Member

I do understand what you are experiencing & feeling. I too felt extremely fatigued today and I think it might be a accommodation of things, for me its mainly underlying anxiety and biological factors playing a huge part in my physical symptoms of depression.

I think even though we didn't feel so good, its during these times we need to make sure we are still eating well. I think its worthwhile to get a referral to a clinical dietitian because diet plays a huge part in the healing/recovery process.

It is quite interesting to research about the brain and what is made up of and what we need to make sure the brain stays healthy. We need carbonhydrates and omega 3 in diet, plus other things too and make sure you drink plenty of water and exercise to get the oxygen flowing through the body.
