Re: Life and trauma

@Till23 i completely know where you are coming from. Even when I can think of good things and things i should be grateful for i still feel unhappy, like nothing can make me happy. It's a real challenge to fight our brains when we start thinking like this. It really is like having to rewire your brain to see and accept the positives and to not just focus on the negatives. It's learning to find a balance between the two.

I hope focussing on the positives and your resilience can see you through the hard days ahead @Former-Member

Some of the positives I’ve noticed about you, while I’ve been on the forums, is your compassionate support of other people, even in the face of dealing with your own issues. Also you reach out to a lot of different people, you make time for that even though you are busy

Re: Life and trauma

Thanks so much for the kind words @Till23, that really means so much to me.

I love being able to support other people and it also helps me, knowing that I can make a difference to others 😊.

I've got 8 days until I'm homeless and that thought scares me so much but I'm not giving up without one hell of a fight.

Re: Life and trauma

Totally! That negative bias does exist @Till23 @Former-Member , but also remember that your brain is like a big muscle. The more you 'exercise' the part of the brain that helps with the negative thinking, the stronger it becomes. The more you practice and exercise the other parts of the brain, the stronger it becomes.

When I first started minfulness and gratitude pratice, it didn't do an ounce fo good. In fact, I got very frustrated. Now, I can see it makes such a difference.

When you get time, if you want, there is an experiment you can watch called The Mindfulness Experiment. This documentry really opened my eyes. It sounds how WE are in control of shaping and reshaping our brains.

Re: Life and trauma

Actually apparently there is research that you can make new pathways in your brain by continually thinking in certain ways @Former-Member @tyme These pathways can become stronger than the previous negative ones.
I am going to try and do an experiment on myself for this, I need to change my thinking to try and change my life into a happier one.

Re: Life and trauma

Sounds to tough @Former-Member . Have you been through the courts to advocate for yourself about your accomodation?

Re: Life and trauma

@tyme it's not a situation i can take to court nor would i want to.

I've exhausted every avenue possible though to get help with my situation and noone can help. I've been passed from service to service and not one of them can actually do anything.

Yes! This is what I am saying. We can strengthed certain neural pathways the more we exercise them.

I don't know if you are a reader @Till23 @Former-Member , but a book that really encouraged me to 'do the work' was The Woman Who Changed Her Brain. About a woman who had so many different challenges with development, learning, thinking etc. She then developed exercises to train her brain.

Now this is not a solid evidence based book, but for me, it gave me hope.

@tyme thanks for sharing, I might check it out sometime 😊

Oops we were typing at the same time @tyme and basically saying the same thing. I will look out the Mindfulness Experiment though.

Thanks for the chat.

I am certainly grateful @Former-Member that my housing is currently secure. I hope your situation works out.

I had better log off so I can get ready to travel if my sport goes ahead in this weather.
