Re: Life and trauma
@Till23 it's so frustrating that our brains can only focus on the negative sometimes.
I am the same, and sometimes I just can't see any positives. But then I'm reminded by others that just getting out of bed, getting dressed, doing my teeth, they are all little wins.

Re: Life and trauma
Thanks @Jynx today has been a kind of an achievement-less day. I stayed in bed late, which I usually feel too guilty to do. However, I tried to just enjoy it and not worry. Then I got up and did some tidying in my garden. Then a bit of tidying inside.
Did a bit of research on cyclone, because I’m supposed to be going to a sport event on Saturday, and it’s a few hours away so I’m trying to work out whether it will be on. So I wrote a few lists, because I’ll be away overnight. That’s about it. I’m doing some word and number puzzles now.

Re: Life and trauma
Thanks @tyme. I never really saw achievements before but being here has helped me to see that even the simplest things are small wins when things are tough.

And good on you Till23 for not shaming yourself for having a bit extra time in bed!! Rest is not optional, and not something we need to earn!

@Former-Member @Till23 ,
I was only sharing with a member here last night that if we focus our minds on things we have achieved (big or small) and things we are grateful for, it can give us space between our unhelpful thoughts and the 'negatives' in life.
The more you share your gratitude and celebrations, the less room you have for the unhelpful things we may ruminate on.
I've tried this myself and it really works.
Of course there are also times we acknowledge the challenges, but you set time for each.

Re: Life and trauma
@tyme yes that's so very true.
I have some really hard days ahead and I know it's going to push me to the edge. Trying to focus now on those positives no matter how big or small may just be enough to help me somehow get through what's coming.

Re: Life and trauma
And look, there's certainly time to consider the reality of life, but where possible, consider things you are grateful for. Like a gratitude diary. @Former-Member

Re: Life and trauma
Yes @tyme @Former-Member I have tried the gratefulness strategy.
I have so many things to be grateful for and I try to think of that and sometimes even write them down.
Unfortunately, because of my negative bias, I can often turn that around and think if I’ve got all these things to be grateful for, why do I still not feel happy. I have to be wary of this.
