FebFast - can we get a group together here?

FebFast - can we get a group together here?

Hello All,

I think we've all heard it before and I'm sure a lot of you stay away from the booze, well I don't and I have been encouraged to stop for a month.

So how about for anyone interested we do a FebFast group here (not registering on the site), just something where we can support eachother. I need to get off the grog and I'm sure together it's more fun.

@NikNik or any other moderator, did you mention that anywhere yet?

Re: FebFast - can we get a group together here?

Dear Flower,

Can I make an outrageous suggestion? If you want to get off the booze, try AA. My brother was a severe alcoholic, and after he went to AA he hasn't had a drink in 10 years. You do not have to be an alcoholic to go to AA - they will help anyone with a problem with alcohol and help you get through it. All kinds of people go to AA - businessmen, housewives, young professionals, students, young working people... it is a really inclusive group and worth considering. Why not take help when it is offered? At least go along to one meeting to see what it is like.

Good luck with your abstinence for a month. I used to be a heavy drinker, but have not had any alcohol for several years now. You know? I don't miss it. I will go into a pub and order a lemon lime and bitters instead.

Re: FebFast - can we get a group together here?

Dear Ellu,

Sorry it really seemed outrageous to me, but I did check out the website and even took the test - which indicated no reason to join AA.

I'm going through trauma recovery and drinking alcohol is a coping strategy when I have flashbacks. I don't normally drink, I am always the designated driver, but sometimes I will hit the top shelf just because the meds on their own don't make the pain go away. I have other unhealthy coping strategies like bulimia and SH, but all of these are considered by my psychiatrist as coping strategies not as free standing problems. Working through trauma is overwhelming and we are trying to keep the support as focused as possible. My psych would like me off the grog because of the meds I'm taking and I agreed not to use it as a coping strategy for a month.

Thank you for your post, but I think I will pass on AA, especially as I find group therapy extremly triggering.

Hiya @Former-Member,

its been a long time since we 'talked'. I still read your posts. I know @Sahara and @Nikolai have discussed this before. Maybe they'll jump on board. I use it to boost my meds too or for courage to SH but have not been too bad of late. Happy to support you. Maybe I can make my febFast about having biscuits or sweet stuff in the house, I'll be just as grumpy 😝

Here with you and thinking of you 💜🤗💐

That's great @NikNik

My psychiatrist said the beginning of the year is the best time to implement change as no one will question your motives 🙂

Day 2 was ok with the goals I set, but I'm trying hard not to hit the bottle tonight. Will prob go sleep soon to avoid the temptation. Not gonna help.

Day 2 has been okay for me too. Thursday nights are usually easy, as I work (here I am 🙂 ) so I'm really busy.

I hope you get some rest tonight @Former-Member Take care
