Re: One Day at a time here

I'm so sorry that your family are not reciprocating and extending to you the care that you need @Shaz51 . *hug* But I am so glad you have let us know this and tagged me in it so that I can express to you that I care, I'm here to listen, and you are worthy of being cared for.

It is heartbreaking when those we show care to don't even ask how we are. 😢 you are not alone in feeling that when it happens, and it is a valid thing to feel. I wonder if it happens more (and effects us more) for people like us who do show so much care and value caring for people so highly?

I wish there was a magic way to understand why they do not respond and seem to not care. I wonder if they don't know how to offer support or care - have they always been like this?

From a practical perspective (please ignore if you do not want this, that is ok!), I wonder whether telling them what you need from them would help? E.g. "I feel xxx, and it would be really helpful if you could xxx." (Come over for a coffee? Help with cooking a meal? Tell me what you value most about me?)

I am glad that it sounds like there are a few family members that are supportive, including Mr Shaz's side. I hope they can give you extra care and support whilst you're feeling especially hurt and overlooked.

You are one of the most amazing people on this forum @Shaz51 . And for who you are - even if you were unable to show support for others due to self-care, you would still be such an important and valuable person. You are so welcoming and made me feel safe when I joined.

Re: One Day at a time here

@Shaz51 Yes, it’s hard, when family members don’t care or respect the real challenges we face. They ought to be ashamed, not caring, with what you are dealing with physically. Just keep your dignity, and seek comfort from those who have the decency to care.

It’s been pretty much like that my whole life. We were gawked at, smirked and jeered at, for poverty and the mental health stuff, deaths, and the orphanages. I wouldn’t have dared not to pull my weight, but in the end, they were not really family, I guess. There has been lots of family fragmentation. The 2 family members who visited last week, are actually decent and vulnerable, both on DSP. They don’t have capacity to really care about me, and I don’t expect more than they are decent. Mostly I just have to strong and independent. .My aunties, uncles and my cousins are an utter disgrace. I have finally let go of the hoping and the pain. They aren’t worth it.
