Managing thoughts of suicide & self-harm

Triggers

Triggers

  • Hi team,

I've been just discharged from the mental ward a few days ago, been there involuntary for 3 weeks due to a manic psychotic episode. I've recovered from that. But since being home, its been very triggering and exhausting, but I can't deal with that now because I have to go back to work.

How to work this one out?

I wonder if it gets easier later @Fun ???

Is this something you can work on with a therapist?

Hi @tyme ,

Historically speaking, it doesn't get easier.

But I can certainly discuss with my therapist.

Hi @tyme,

Just letting you know that my thoughts of self harm has reduced significantly. It took a while but I feel better.

Awwww @Fun ,

So glad to hear! I'm glad you stuck in there. I'm not saying it's easy, but you've done it.

I'm also not saying it won't happen again, but as least you can tell yourself that you have been through it before.

Whilst things are better, can you think of things you can implement now for the times you don't feel as good?

I'm sitting with you and thinking of you.

Re: Triggers

Yeah definitely won't be the only one. It took time and I was getting frustrated but I continued to do daily activities, walk outside... Distractions. And if that stopped working, then taking my medications early to sleep was also very helpful.

We can all learn from you @Fun 🙂

So glad you were able to maintain wellness when you really weren't very well.

Thanks for sharing those strategies.

Re: Triggers

Sorry I'm not that optimistic. It worked once. But it's a hell of a road and it's exhausting. I fear that.

I don't want people to learn from me when it's not a success story yet.

Successes along the way add to a success story. Your strategies are definitely a reminder for myself and others.

It doesn't mean there won't be another fall, but it's about how we all get up after a fall. @Fun

How are you @Fun ? What's been happening/not happening in your world?

I'm here if you need a chat.

Hi @tyme

I've been slowly getting better, my self harm thoughts are now passive and I'm learning that I should be patient before deciding to self harm. Remind myself that I've been through it before and have succeeded. Just need to do alot of activities to get my mind out of it

My mood is abit better with the medication but I've been struggling with sleep which is not good if you're bipolar. So I'm still trying to fix that.

I get lonely alot of times, so I'm trying to get better with my social skills, and get out more but it's hard when you don't have friends.

Thank you for asking

I'm continuously working on my self, very small steps and I get frustrated alot but I'm learning.

So I'm better in general but still feel like at any day I might go back into depression
