Anyone started with the NDIS?

Anyone started with the NDIS?

Tells my story from initial application (Feb '17) to acceptance by NDIS (July '18) and the process of putting things in place and progress, improvements, managing and difficulties since then. Now Jan '21.

Original post : I've recently moved and will need to get into the NDIS in my new location. Wondering if anyone in the forums has successfully done this? Any advice would be welcome. Feeling swamped by their website.

EDIT : I was finally accepted to the NDIS and am now 3/4 through my 2nd plan. With only a small reduction from the first year. And this plan is for 2 years so I don't have to jump through all the hoops with a review this time next year. To all others on this path I say ........

IT'S REALLY WORTH PERSEVERING!!!

Hoping this thread helps all who come here.

Re: Anyone started with the NDIS?

Thanks @Bunniekins. I couldn't have done it without all the support I've had, here and IRL. How did your plan review for your son go?

@eth I dont know yet I still have to fill out the form with his dad and lodge it. Ridiculous .... this organisation is playing politics with very vulnerable people it makes me so pissed off .

@Bunniekins do you have supports that will continue until the review is done?

Yes, his normal activities can be funded (just) but have had to cancel respite for him but have kept his disco night as he loves it (even though it is currently not funded). If I kept respite and we lost the review it would cost me $3,000.00 for 5 days. I don't know how much his disco night with a carer would cost but I dont care he has to go he came back so happy.

You are so dedicated to him @Bunniekins. Outrageous cost for respite. I'm really glad to hear he has something he enjoys so much that he can continue.

My solicitor contacted sil today (working on the weekend?!) to arrange for me to do a budget up for her that shows why I can't afford the amount of sessions I need with my psychologist to the NDIA/S. Another hoop to jump through. Will do it tomorrow, can't face it tonight.

@eth Thanks eth. It is an outrageous cost for respite too but what can you do that is the cost of respite where we live and he does love it so that is what you do.

Well the budget is looking scary now that I write it all down. I have known for a while that I was using my meagre savings to top up my pension payment, but not to the extent that I am. I'm spending at least $100pf over my income, and that's only including necessary stuff. Haven't included the cost of things like going to a cafe with my support worker or seeing a movie. According to my calculations I definitely have to find a way to reduce my costs. Hard to do when it's all essential basics. Won't be hard to show that it's the cost of regular therapy that's sending me backwards.

And that's only seeing the psychologist fortnightly. She wants to see me weekly if possible so we can make progress with trauma therapy and EMDR. That would add another $175 pf to my expenses as it would be over and above the amount allowed by using both mental health care plan (10) and chronic health care plan (5). And doing the latter means I miss out on podiatry, physio, - any other allied health providers which I need because of my foot and weight gain from meds.

@eth I hear you eth hopefully the NDIS will hear you to and come to the party. If they dont what hope is there for the rest of us nothing ... try not to stress though you are doing everything that you can at the end of the day that is all you can do. Make sure you spend alot of this week doing self care so that you dont end up a nervous wreck. xx
