Anyone started with the NDIS?

Anyone started with the NDIS?

Tells my story from initial application (Feb '17) to acceptance by NDIS (July '18) and the process of putting things in place and progress, improvements, managing and difficulties since then. Now Jan '21.

Original post : I've recently moved and will need to get into the NDIS in my new location. Wondering if anyone in the forums has successfully done this? Any advice would be welcome. Feeling swamped by their website.

EDIT : I was finally accepted to the NDIS and am now 3/4 through my 2nd plan. With only a small reduction from the first year. And this plan is for 2 years so I don't have to jump through all the hoops with a review this time next year. To all others on this path I say ........

IT'S REALLY WORTH PERSEVERING!!!

Hoping this thread helps all who come here.

Re: Anyone started with the NDIS?

@ethYou have a lot of insight about your relationships with your bro and sil. Hope they see the effort you have put in to let the walls down and let them in.

I can walk with you and take on the curves ...

Re: Anyone started with the NDIS?

Thanks @Former-Member and @Appleblossom. It's not just the chemist it's all my appointments with GP, psychologist and psychiatrist and that's just to survive. In order to thrive more and have more of a life I need to get involved in community groups and/or do some study, not just the essentials. But thanks for the suggestion @Former-Member. I'll look into it if it comes to that.

Nice pic @Appleblossom - and represents the many curves in life. Thanks for being here.

Re: Anyone started with the NDIS?

We finished our statements this week and lodged them @Bunniekins and are heading for a case conference on Thursday unless it gets postponed.

It is soooo confronting seeing in print so much detail about how I (don't) cope, what sort of functional effects there are because of my MH diagnoses of Bipolar 1, complex PTSD, anxiety and depression. Some things I've never talked about with anyone before. Reading bro and sil's statements gave me quite a shock too.

Re: Anyone started with the NDIS?

@eth Just brace yourself there will more than likely be a shower of b*stards there trying to intimidate you. I am glad your bro and sil will be there with you. We all will be thinking of you and wishing you well. I know it has been a nightmare seeing everything in black and white not good for the soul but you need everything to be as bleak as possible otherwise they will just laugh in your face .... the ......

I know bro's and sil's statements probably hit you the worst but it is good they did what they did ... you should have seen the statement that my son's pdoc wrote to the NDIS omg .... it sounded like I had a raving lunatic to deal with ... anyway ... you are nearly there. So brave eth 🙂

Re: Anyone started with the NDIS?

Thanks a lot @Bunniekins. The meeting this week will be probably mostly the solicitors for both sides raising their conclusions and queries in response to new reports and statements. It's a case conference, not conclusive. After that it's either a conciliation (acceptance by NDIS) or we head to a hearing currently listed for May 24, at which the AAT will make a ruling, hopefully in my favour. They have the power to overturn NDIS decisions.

Re: Anyone started with the NDIS?

@eth They are so putting you through the wringer can you imagine anyone without support being able to cope with this. I couldnt. It makes me very upset that you have to deal with this. So the NDIS dont want this because they know it will open the flood gate for people with mental illness. You and your bro and sil are such trail blazers. Evil beaurocrats.

Re: Anyone started with the NDIS?

@Bunniekins this whole process started with my initial application in Feb last year and I'm sure that when I mention it to the one friend I've told about it I sound like someone obsessed with a court case. But if it is granted to me it really will change my life, and allow bro and sil to focus on their own needs and careers again. They both said in their statements that if my needs increase they'd have to look at placing me in an institution. That was a punch to the gut when I first read it. I talked to my psychologist about it and she said there probably isn't that sort of place available to me unless I have an acute crisis and go to hospital. And that would only be temporary. And the main reason I need supports is to avoid that situation from happening. So I don't know where that would leave me long term.

Re: Anyone started with the NDIS?

@Bunniekins have you asked NDIS to confirm if you're due a plan review (I think you would be) or if you really have to apply all over again? Have you looked into getting a Disability Advocate?

Re: Anyone started with the NDIS?

@eth Yes I did exagerrate a bit when I said you had to apply all over again but it still all has to be approved. If the supvisor isnt happy you can lose x amount of dollars. So that is really what I meant they say a review but in all honesty I think it is a way to cut back yet again ... I have a Disability Advocate who was there with me and thank god for that because I wouldnt know where to begin.

I dont mean to be doom and gloom but after doing this (dealing with beaurocrats etc) since my son was 2 1/2 and he is now nearly 25 I do not trust one single hair on their collective heads.
