Anyone started with the NDIS?

Anyone started with the NDIS?

Tells my story from initial application (Feb '17) to acceptance by NDIS (July '18) and the process of putting things in place and progress, improvements, managing and difficulties since then. Now Jan '21.

Original post : I've recently moved and will need to get into the NDIS in my new location. Wondering if anyone in the forums has successfully done this? Any advice would be welcome. Feeling swamped by their website.

EDIT : I was finally accepted to the NDIS and am now 3/4 through my 2nd plan. With only a small reduction from the first year. And this plan is for 2 years so I don't have to jump through all the hoops with a review this time next year. To all others on this path I say ........

IT'S REALLY WORTH PERSEVERING!!!

Hoping this thread helps all who come here.

Re: Anyone started with the NDIS?

Hi @Mazarita thanks for being here. It's no wonder my thread has put some people off applying it seems, but it's good for me to get my thoughts out and look at them and distance myself from some of them or just feel more like I can let it be, here, accept how I'm feeling and try to reduce the pressure.

Re: Anyone started with the NDIS?

@eth what a nightmare for you having to relive it. I dont know about you eth but my mind protects myself from what happened by forgetting alot of what happened when I was manic so I presume yours does too. It must be awful to have it all there in black and white. It would be like baring your soul to these bureaucrats.

Re: Anyone started with the NDIS?

@eth and @Former-Member, good to see you both in real time this morning.

It seems the intensity of the pressure for you, @eth, has really reached a crescendo at this point. Legal proceedings of any kind are stressful at the best of times. I don't know what to say about bro at the moment. He just seems to be insensitive and perhaps a bit ignorant of what is involved in mental illness of the kind we have. I'd say again to try not to worry about him for the moment, or to minimise that as much as possible. The focus has to be on you and getting yourself feeling a bit better than this again. Whatever that takes. Even if it's being a bit collapsed for a while.

Re: Anyone started with the NDIS?

Thanks @Mazarita and @Bunniekins and @Former-Member.

Greenpea you're right, that's exactly what it does feel like. Even tho' I've had a lot of help to do the statement, it has been as hard as when I had to do affidavits for DV court case and AVO application 8 and 12 years ago.

Sil just dropped over to say the hearing is in the big smoke early in the day so we might have to go the day before and stay in a motel. I will pay for this if it happens. I also offered to take her and bro out for dinner to say thankyou for all their help, especially lately.

I appreciate the responses about bro's way of encouraging - I don't doubt that he only wants the best for me and I feel guilty that I am such a burden to them both. None of us knew how having family support would look before I moved here. I'd not had any support for so many years and they'd been unable to get through the walls of my withdrawal and isolation. Then suddenly I ask for help and they build a cabin for me and have me come to live in their back yard. And I drop the bundle I've carried alone for so long squarely in their laps. It's as if once I knew I had support my needs could hit the surface, not be buried and paralysed as they'd been for so long. On top of that bro is away a lot for work so the burden is more on my sil and takes it's toll on her mostly. She goes back to work in a few months and will not be able to continue doing so much carer stuff for me. So the pressure is really on to get NDIS or find other ways of me functioning, which I haven't been able to do thus far. So I'm feeling somewhat hopeless and anxious about the future.

Re: Anyone started with the NDIS?

Hi @Bunniekins, we posted at roughly the same time, so I missed saying hello to you this morning. Hi. Hope you are going okay. Haven't caught up with you for a little bit.

@eth, totally get how stuck and anxious you might be feeling right now. There are options for when SIL goes back to work. For example, if she isn't able to take you shopping, you might consider internet shopping. I would do that if C wasn't doing our shopping. There is also still Phams in place for now to help with other errands. I don't know what to say to alleviate your anxiety, other than to suggest that we can't always know or control what the future holds. But you have made it this far in life and will continue to survive come what may. You seem to me to be a lot stronger in a general sense than you may feel right now.

Re: Anyone started with the NDIS?

Thanks again @Mazarita. PHaMs will lose the funding for non-NDIS 'customers' in a few months. Internet shopping I can do. But there are other essential appointments, chemist etc that already don't fit into PHaMs time slot. I sound so negative this morning. I'm going to go do a couple of domestic chores and see if that lifts my mood. But I'll probably be back later and will look for you. Hopefully your day is a good one. Same to you @Bunniekins @Former-Member and @CheerBear (I see you around atm.)

Thankyou all for the support here that is unlike any in real life. I feel safe to say what I need to here and it helps me work out how to put things to bro and sil.

Re: Anyone started with the NDIS?

@eth, maybe put on some music as well, to help lift the mood. I am about to do that myself. Very tired again this morning. Still haven't unpacked my suitcase from travelling. It's been sitting there for about 10 days now! Gotta get moving a bit more on things if I can. Rainy day here so will probably be inside for most of it. Will look for you later. Hugs! ox

Re: Anyone started with the NDIS?

I so feel for you @eth and anyone else having to go through this.

I have to get ready for an appointment today and I've already procrastinated. I noted you mentioned being able to handle online shopping, but the pharmacy remains an issue. Have you heard of MedAdvisor?

The pharmacy, and you, are signed up to it, your scripts are kept at the Pharmacy and you use the online system to order for either pick up or delivery. My pharmacy delivers, so I use the delivery service more than I do the pick up. I can also email or phone, or talk in person like I will have to today, for information etc.

I think there are other systems like this one, but this is the one considered the most useful by my pharmacy group.

Perhaps this will help with taking another load off for you. It is heartbreaking what we have to go through to get support.
