Anyone started with the NDIS?

Anyone started with the NDIS?

Tells my story from initial application (Feb '17) to acceptance by NDIS (July '18) and the process of putting things in place and progress, improvements, managing and difficulties since then. Now Jan '21.

Original post : I've recently moved and will need to get into the NDIS in my new location. Wondering if anyone in the forums has successfully done this? Any advice would be welcome. Feeling swamped by their website.

EDIT : I was finally accepted to the NDIS and am now 3/4 through my 2nd plan. With only a small reduction from the first year. And this plan is for 2 years so I don't have to jump through all the hoops with a review this time next year. To all others on this path I say ........

IT'S REALLY WORTH PERSEVERING!!!

Hoping this thread helps all who come here.

Hi @catgirl So glad it is working out for you. I know there are very dedicated people in the public system. Its just finding them or being in the rightspot at the right time.

@Bunniekins @eth I am figuring that mohill decided to close her account today as she is going into serious surgery fo a tumour today. Maybe she felt the challenge of keeping up the forum was too much. I am posting flowers for her and wishing her the best whether she can come back or not. She will be missed.

Re: Anyone started with the NDIS?

Thanks for the answer @catgirl I have bipolar 1 and cPTSD with depression and anxiety. I just asked because I get the impression that it's more likely NDIS will approve people with physical and mental diagnoses, not mental illness alone. NDIS seem to think bipolar can be cured by the mainstream medical system - it can't. The best one can hope for is managing it with a combination of medication and self-management that can at times reduce the frequency and intensity of manias/depressions. For me there's been no 'normal' in between those states since I was in my teens (now 54). Plus the cPTSD problems and bipolar swings totally impact on each other, they are intertwined. They can trigger each other at any time.

@Appleblossom @Bunniekins lovely flowers for @Mohill. I hope she gets to see them some time soon. Mohill you are missed greatly. Sending you peace, strength and swift recovery from your surgery. Thinking of you

Goodmorning too to @Former-Member @Former-Member @PhoenixRising and anyone else following this thread.

@eth Howdy eth! How is your day going? Okay it hope:) I went out this morning and then straight back to bed after that. Am so tired. What you are saying about the NDIS is so depressing .... hide back under my covers again.

Had a very quiet day here @Bunniekins. Not feeling very talkative but sending wishes that you feel better after resting.

Re: Anyone started with the NDIS?

Hugs back to you @Bunniekins. Maybe the stars do influence our mood (I have an astrological calendar and sometimes track the stars and moon phases) But I can see plenty of reasons here on earth for each of us to be having a rocky time. Hope you have more energy today.

Yesterday another discussion about the statement with sil. My solicitor sent back the latest draft of it and she's deleted quite a lot that we think should stay in. So....back to the drawing board. I'm at a stage where I get brain overload from it and forget what's been said quickly. It's not helping. And sil reminded me that this document needs to be finalised before 30/3. I had thought we had until 14/4.

@Former-Member @PhoenixRising @Former-Member @catgirl @Appleblossom good morning and thanks for your interest and support. I can talk more freely about it all here than I can IRL.

Re: Anyone started with the NDIS?

Yesterday afternoon I got to read my brother's statement for the AAT appeal (NDIS) and have been really rattled by the end of it since then. His last paragraph says that if my needs escalate he would have to consider placing me in an institution. A punch to the gut and a few cries since then. Better bloody hope my needs don't escalate. It really shows that bro and sil are unable to do more than they do already (which I'm eternally grateful for) but sil's mother is also coming to live here and she will need care too. So this is all the more reason I need NDIS supports.

@Bunniekins @Appleblossom @catgirl @Former-Member @Former-Member @Phoenix_Rising and anyone else following - this one has hit me hard.

Yet again stymied by the fact that things have to be proved at their worst and this makes it impossible to keep a positive focus on self care and management.
