Am Not Coping

Am Not Coping

I am really not coping at the moment but this is entirely on ME!

This is a message for a few people on here @utopia @Former-Member @Faith-and-Hope @Former-Member

that I asked could be passed on but it seems that only part of it has been and I understand from the responses that have made it through my emails that I have caused untold distress for some people. I was not going to return because of what I felt I put people through but I especially wanted @utopia and @Former-Member to know that they were not wrong at the time and I was going through a real crisis period. You both held me together for longer than I could myself until the point where my own self-destructive thoughts overwhelmed me.

The entire message that I sent to SANE is below:

I have just viewed the multitude of emails and messages sent from forum members and members of the SANE team – as well as the text and voice message left on my phone.

I have not been able to communicate with anyone since the other night as I have been recovering from what ended up being an unsuccessful attempt to end the pain.

At the time I was in a very distressed state and I did want to stop the pain and all I seemed to achieve is to cause others pain and worry and that is the last thing I wanted to do – I just wanted to end mine and say goodbye to everyone beforehand so my future absence was explained. I should have realised that the message I posted would have concerned some people but I really was not in any state to think about the repercussions for others.

I am so sorry I caused so much distress to others – that is something I will have to hopefully try and live with.

I don’t believe after the concern and anxiety I caused to so many that I will ever be able to return to the forum.

Can someone from the SANE team please explain all this to all those involved and pass on my gratitude for their compassion, concerns and kind words throughout the time I have been part of the ‘forum family’.

Thank you and sorry again for the difficult position I put everyone in.

Zoe7

I do not want any responses from any of you. I just wanted to let you know exactly what has happened and let you know how truly sorry I am for hurting people I have come to think of as friends and family, and who I really care about.

Your support, advice and compassion are what make you all the wonderful people you are.

@utopia and @Former-Member I am so sorry that the trust you placed in me has now been broken because of my actions. I also felt that we had a stronger connection, especially over the last week, and you both helped me in ways I cannot even describe or explain. I was not pulling away from you two - just wanted to pull away from myself. I couldn't cope with my own feelings and no-one or nothing was actually going to be able to stop me at the time. It's now just another failure to add to my list of failures. I really don't know what else to say to you both but to reiterate my heartfelt 'sorry'.

Re: Am Not Coping

@Zoe7. Are you also a doodler of serviettes etc.
I love hearing about what really goes on in the education department & how that impacts you and the kids.
The primary school here in my town no longer offers music . As you say - another subject becomes mandatory and schools can't keep funding all subjects - so something has to go. This primary school - years ago - got a great art teacher. She is simply amazing. She is an Artist in her own right. So she will have a theme for the kids for a few weeks. It may be Sea creatures. Then all kids are left to their own devices as to what they create. There is clay, paper machee, charcoal, paint, pencils & recycled materials. The kids are free to choose any medium. This really creates some amazing work & then the kids gain confidence & are willing to try other mediums and techniques.
Even when we got a new principal - he saw the benefits of keeping this teacher and art program. To do this - sport became part time.We jhave a lot of sport in town anyway. And we had to give up the music teacher. But this new principal - then took over teaching music himself so the kids wouldn't miss out.
All subjects are important

Re: Am Not Coping

@utopia A few years ago we had one afternoon a week where every child could choose a special activity to do for the afternoon. It usually ran for about three weeks at a time. Each teacher offered something different. Of course I offered art/craft activities. The first time we ran these activities I had 56 kids wanting to do our activity (out of a school of 200 with 11 activities offered). I ended up with 52 of those kids - in one room - with no extra help. What an afternoon that was. The next time I asked for a cap on the numbers - could not do that many again!! We made birdhouses, jewelry, snow globes, plaster figures, tile mosaics etc. throughout the year.

For the last 7 years (apart from last year because I wasn't there) I have organised a large group of kids to participate in an event that takes months and hundreds of hours to get ready for. I can't say what it is because it would really easily identify who I am. All I can say is there are lots and lots of creations and costumes made in varying themes. That was the one thing I really missed being off work last year - and I knew the kids would be disappointed as well.

It is such a shame we can't offer art anymore. We do offer music. Music in the community is very highly valued as we have some great programs and an excellent community band which is aligned very closely with the local high school.

I firmly believe that subjects such as art and music need to be offered for children to express themselves in alternative ways. We focus so much on the more 'academic' nature of schooling and favour those who show aptitude in this area and try to increase the skills of those who don't.One of my biggest issues with the NAPLAN testing (for writing) is a good example. We expect our children to be able to write a narrative that adheres to all the relevant criteria. My problem with this is: not everyone is a writer, just as not everyone is a scientist or footballer or cleaner etc. It takes so many different people to form our world with so many different interests, skills and knowledge. How about we teach difference and diversity and it's value in the world to our children first - then let them choose!

Re: Am Not Coping

I was saying similar @Zoe7 to my old friend - when the government announced certain courses would now be considered 'lifestyle subjects' & did not lead to meaningful employment. You can imagine how angry people were.
A lot of these courses were in the Arts - his passion & community support - my passion. As I said to him - we need diversional therapists in mental health, aged care, disability services - prisons and hospitals.
And we need art therapists for all of these areas. And stage and costume designers.
The world without people to help the most disadvantaged - the most needy - would be a horrible world to live in. We need these people to raise people up and help them to be the best they can be.
Then we need the arts to show how we feel. To show us the beauty and sadness in the world.
A world without artistic expression would be devastating. We know here on this forum - how hard it is to live well - when we can't express our emotions. So why doesn't the government recognise the important place Art, Music (which is a language) etc plays in creating a stable healthy community.

Re: Am Not Coping

@utopia This is my view:

The world (and the 'power brokers' of this world) trade in property, knowledge and wealth. Those who have the means to aquire property, knowledge and wealth have the power. Intelligence becomes property. It is dealt with as a financial benefit not a means to educate. Therefore society places so much more emphasis on the more academic subjects in school as the students that succeed in these areas can then be used for their knowledge in furthering the power imbalances within society.

Those who do not meet the 'socially acceptable guidelines' (provided by those in power) are deemed as misfits or failures. Their skills and 'knowledge' in more diverse areas are not recognised if they do not adhere to the expectations, and do not have an input into increasing the wealth of the power brokers, in that society.

Too heavy?????

Re: Am Not Coping

Not. Not too heavy @Zoe7. Perfect for a Sunday night. And I could do with a bit of mental stimulation. I don't often get it from my friends in town. Different life. Different wave length.
An economist is not going to help me or my son in the future - grow our own food.
The Lawyer is not going to help my son find future employment - wherever his passion lies.
The Tax man is not going to protect my mountain - so that my Grandkids and their Grandkids can enjoy it.
The politician isn't going to bring a smile to my mums face - when she is bedridden and needs a laugh.
The Football commentator on the tele, is not going to show my niece how compassion makes the world go round.
The airheaded so called 'celebrity' is not going to paint the mural on the building - that makes everyone smile when they see it.
I can't feed myself on an economists report. I can't educate my son or niece in what is really important in this world - with a politicians liesand sarcasm.
I cannit make my mum smile & bring her joy by watching the 'kardashians' of the world.
We need people to feed us. We need farmers. Citton and wool producers. We need clowns and musiciand and artists. We don't need more politicians or lawyers.
My name is Utopia. I want the world to be better. I don't need a lot of money. It doesn't make me happy.
Oh & I hope my post to bb - wasn't too rough. I just hate it when someone is given such power to keep hurting the same person over and over again.

Re: Am Not Coping

@utopia All very well said and I think what you said to bb was spot on - she deserves so much more and all the happiness that comes her way.

I actually can't respond any more right now - something has just happened that really aligns with your very last sentence and I actually can't believe it. There is only so much hurt that one can endure before it is just too much. I think I have now reached that point.

Re: Am Not Coping

I'm sorry @Zoe7. Can I help? I didn't mean to trigger anything.
Again I'm sorry. No need to post. But please keep yourself safe tonight.
Breathe .... and seek help if you need it. Or reach out to @Faith-and-Hope. She can help calm you.
Sorry I put my foot in it. I'm okay but just want you to be.
Sending love.♥♥

Re: Am Not Coping

@utopia no my friend - you did not trigger anything. It was just a coincidence that I read your post directly after something else happened. I'm really sorry but I just can't talk about it atm. I can't stand the constant hurt and just when I think it is over and I can try to let go on move on it happens again. I've had enough.

Re: Am Not Coping

Just breathe @Zoe7. It's just a coincidence as you say.
You don't have to say what's happened. Just call or text your gp. Or ring your psychologist. Don't do this night on your own without help and support.
Just focus on the next 20 minutes.
Breathe. Distraction. Toby & Cat. Art books to read or flip through.
I'm here

Sorry to hear that something at home has upset you tonight. Just remember we are all here for you.

Take care and try to do things that distract from the negative thoughts, they can really bring you down.

Hope you can get some sleep tonight.
