Am Not Coping

Am Not Coping

I am really not coping at the moment but this is entirely on ME!

This is a message for a few people on here @utopia @Former-Member @Faith-and-Hope @Former-Member

that I asked could be passed on but it seems that only part of it has been and I understand from the responses that have made it through my emails that I have caused untold distress for some people. I was not going to return because of what I felt I put people through but I especially wanted @utopia and @Former-Member to know that they were not wrong at the time and I was going through a real crisis period. You both held me together for longer than I could myself until the point where my own self-destructive thoughts overwhelmed me.

The entire message that I sent to SANE is below:

I have just viewed the multitude of emails and messages sent from forum members and members of the SANE team – as well as the text and voice message left on my phone.

I have not been able to communicate with anyone since the other night as I have been recovering from what ended up being an unsuccessful attempt to end the pain.

At the time I was in a very distressed state and I did want to stop the pain and all I seemed to achieve is to cause others pain and worry and that is the last thing I wanted to do – I just wanted to end mine and say goodbye to everyone beforehand so my future absence was explained. I should have realised that the message I posted would have concerned some people but I really was not in any state to think about the repercussions for others.

I am so sorry I caused so much distress to others – that is something I will have to hopefully try and live with.

I don’t believe after the concern and anxiety I caused to so many that I will ever be able to return to the forum.

Can someone from the SANE team please explain all this to all those involved and pass on my gratitude for their compassion, concerns and kind words throughout the time I have been part of the ‘forum family’.

Thank you and sorry again for the difficult position I put everyone in.

Zoe7

I do not want any responses from any of you. I just wanted to let you know exactly what has happened and let you know how truly sorry I am for hurting people I have come to think of as friends and family, and who I really care about.

Your support, advice and compassion are what make you all the wonderful people you are.

@utopia and @Former-Member I am so sorry that the trust you placed in me has now been broken because of my actions. I also felt that we had a stronger connection, especially over the last week, and you both helped me in ways I cannot even describe or explain. I was not pulling away from you two - just wanted to pull away from myself. I couldn't cope with my own feelings and no-one or nothing was actually going to be able to stop me at the time. It's now just another failure to add to my list of failures. I really don't know what else to say to you both but to reiterate my heartfelt 'sorry'.

Re: Am Not Coping

@Decadian My control issues are more around abuse and violence, expectations (perceived and real) and being constantly let down or disparaged (again more perceived than real) by people around me.

Re: Am Not Coping

Thanks for sharing this @Zoe7

I imagine you were physically and emotionally abused - disparaged and let down - until the only thing you could be sure of was that nothing was likely to be positive - and this was in a background of violence

No child should be abused like that - it leaves marks in your mind - you expect things to go wrong and often they do - oh dear

This must be hard to fight up-hill against - are you seeing anyone - you may have written about this but I can't read everything - I miss out on details

Okay - I am a survivor of childhood abuse - I remember attacking my mother - and the physical abuse stopped though the emotional abuse went on and on - I kept away for years at a time and that was really a hard time -

And if you have had enough crap when you are small - and the background is so pervasive - then the shadows will haunt you into adult life

That is so tough

Re: Am Not Coping

@Decadian You got two out of three right re abuse in childhood! The physical and emotional abuse continued throughout my teenage years also then - as you would expect really - entered an abusive relationship as a teenager that continued into my mid 20s. Pretty much just learnt over the years to accept what I was dealt as that is all I'd known. Has made me very sensitive to even the smallest of disappointments and even though I know in my head that these little things aren't personal I really take it to heart.

Oh dear @Zoe7

It is not at all good to know I was right about the childhood abuse - for it has followed you into adult life - young adult with your abusive relationship

I hope that is over now

And I get it that even though some things are not personal you do take them to heart - it's a hard habit to break - and even the "smallest of disappointments" really are so much more than that

That's a hard place to grow from - and no wonder

Re: Am Not Coping

@Decadian That ended a long time ago - very violently. Did have a couple of short lived 'relationships' after but it was just too hard to trust anyone - and usually any trust was betrayed anyway. Have been on my own for over 15 years now with no intention of even considering letting anyone else into my life.

I know my psychologist is trying to break down some of my barriers (and she does recognise that it is unlikely that I will be able to completely deal with all my 'issues') but I'm not sure how much more I can take at this point.

I'm really just completely overwhelmed by my life and where I'm sitting in it right now.

I've described it before as seeing the light move away from me - at the moment it seems to have nearly disappeared and I just feel so empty.

Re: Am Not Coping

I hope it doesn't sound like trivialising @Zoe7 .... but please do try to distract yourself and keep your mind busy with other things, so it doesn't have so much scope to spiral .....

Are you into jigsaw puzzles ? I was using online crosswords, but Teej does online jigsaws and introduced me to them ... I use a free site called thejigsawpuzzles.com, if you're interested ....it has become my circuit-breaker.

Re: Am Not Coping

@Zoe7. Been flat out at work this morning. I love it when it's busy. The day goes quicker and I can see what I've accomplished.
I hope you weren't let down on here last night. I can understand that you are stuck at the moment. You have memories and nightmares of what happened to you. And for this - you need help in moving forward and past all of this.
But at the same time therapy triggers all these emotions & you can feel worse for a while.
I used to find this. But sometimes you need tooush tthrough the pain - so you can get through to the healing you need. Other times - hibernating works best.
Do what you need to di to get through today. Puzzles, soft music, walks with Toby. cuddles with Cat.
I'm not too bad today. Nightmares featuring old friend. But nothing I can't handle. Would be good if he was out of my head fully - but I can't see that happening - at least not anytime soon.
I'm looking forward to the weekend when I can just stay in bed again.

Re: Am Not Coping

@utopia felt more like I was pushed aside but not by you or my other 'friends' on here. But that is something for me to deal with and have to 'get over'.

Will try and take @Faith-and-Hope 's advice re puzzles.

Have to drag myself out of the house to see GP later today - just want to stay home.

Re: Am Not Coping

Hi @Zoe7

I understand you living on your own for so long - I have been alone for 26 years now I think - and I have no intention of every having it any other way - I am very happy with the way things are right now - even though it can be isolating - and during those times the thoughts can get harder to deal with

For me - I have a lot of things to do with my days - from my private study, piano, on-line media and games and movies - I love movies and docos -

But as for your negative thoughts - that takes a therapist - I am glad you are seeing someone

I understand that you may never over-come all of your issues after such a tough start in life - you have to change the whole map - huge task - and how much can any of us take?

That is something I wonder myself when I think back across my life and how troubled it was for so long - but whether or not I have sorted my own stuff - I can sit with myself now - and I see that light moving away - that does concern me -

You see it disappearing and you feel so empty - that is so sad - that is so terribly sad

Hugs though

Re: Am Not Coping

Good luck at the gp's @Zoe7. You need to see her and let her know how you're doing. And you normally feel better after debriefing with her. And that may help you sleep better tonight.
I'll talk to you when I get home tonight.
Sending you hugs
