Why do I keep doing this to myself?

Re: Listening to triggering music

@Ru-bee I’ve been moving around a lot today, it’s hard to sit still with lots of never energy. I’m wired yet tired. The lack of sleep doesn’t help. Stress along with sleep deprivation and long days isn’t working in my favour today. I just sort of wish I had the “good energy” as opposed to “bad energy”. But bipolar has its insane ways of doing its job. I also have a migraine which I’m probably making worse by not slowing down. Slowing down feels impossible. These thoughts won’t slow down either. Stuck in fight and flight. Heart is racing, adrenaline is pumping, taking a nap feels too difficult

Yeah I hear you, that wired yet tired zone is a hard one to be in @creative_writer

Are there any other restful or soothing things that might feel more possible than a nap right now? I know sometimes when I feel wired due to anxiety, I can't nap but I can rest by laying down for half an hour and putting on something calming to listen to.

That might not feel like something you can do right now and that's okay, maybe it could be standing in the sun for a few minutes, or having a nice drink - you like matcha right? Or having a stretch/ doing some light yoga to use some of this wired energy. What do you think, is any of that feeling doable or helpful for the moment?

The restlessness can be agonising hey @creative_writer.

Would some distraction help?

Re: Listening to triggering music

@Ru-bee I'm not sure if I can nap, but I can probably get myself to rest on my bed, though it would be hard.

I've had my matcha. Stretching might be okay, but vigorous exercise might make it worse.

@Jynx I need these thoughts to slow down. Things feel pretty crazy right now. I don't know what to do and probably need to distract myself from doing something destructive. Having thoughts of SH and SI (I'm safe), urges to impulsively buy things I don't need, and having urges to wash and scrub my skin too much

@creative_writer would it help to concentrate on some prayer, or something that you can try to throw all your focus into? Don't forget your breathing!! Even just 60s of slow, deep breathing does wonders for calming the nervous system!

Sending some hugs 💜

@Jynx I'm going to try, it's been hard to concentrate, even more so as I'm heightened. I was about to pray because i probably need it, even if my concentration isn't 100% there. It usually never is, concentration does not come naturally to me, even when I'm less heightened, gotta thank ADHD brain

Re: Listening to triggering music

@creative_writer I'm glad, sometimes all we can do is try, and hold on best we can.

Sometimes my restlessness needs me to try to soothe, but sometimes it needs me to go burn the energy. Some exercise could help - maybe in a bit if you're feeling a bit better?

Re: Listening to triggering music

@Jynx I think stretches probably is the way to go. No jogging for me with a heavy head.

It’s been a crazy day, I’m doing a bit better now

Aye good idea @creative_writer! I'm due for some stretches too, good lil reminder!

Glad you're feeling a bit better hun, that brings me joy 😊

Re: Listening to triggering music

@Jynx I get a lot of body tension, especially on my left side. My left shoulder is higher than my right.

I wish there was a way that I could process emotions and not have them stored in my body. I’ve looked at somatic therapist, but it is quite a specialised area, I’ll have to narrow to those who accept Medicare. Some of them are quite costly even with Medicare. It’s difficult with that financial stress
