What is your idea of your identity?

What is your idea of your identity?

Hi guys,

I am thinking about my identity and I am struggling to come up with things that don’t revolve around my roles eg. wife, mother, sister, aunt, church member.

I would say that I am creative and brutally honest.

I am hoping that you can suggest the kinds of things that you see as your identity besides your work and other roles. This will give me a spring board to give more more ideas about my own identity.

I would say that I have always struggled with my identity, when I was 19 I remember telling someone that I had no idea who I was. This person had a strong sense of identity and was very expressive in their appearance.

Thanks for any help here. Please tag others you think this may interest

@Jynx

Well as a matter of fact I am looking after my inner child today. I just asked hubby to buy me fairy floss lol. Sometimes my inner child just needs things like that. She also likes to find swings in a park but they need to have wide seats because of my big adult bottom

I would love to hear the REAL - Jynx answer sometime! I am a curious cat…

If you want to put thought into it and come back, I am totally down with it. If not I will make do with what you already posted

I love that @Oaktree haha yesss treat your inner Oaksapling to some tasty treatos!!

I would like to! I think it might be interconnected to my journey with how I conceptualise Love and Spirituality in my life, and I have already promised @Captain24 that I'll write up a post about Love (no I have not forgotten Cap!) so if/when my braincells align, I'll be sure to tag you as well 😊💜

Hello @Oaktree @Jacques

I hesitated to reply as I feel much like Jacques re not having a strong sense of self or identity. I guess I've not had the opportunity to define myself in relation to others, or maybe I've avoided doing so. I feel virtually paralysed by uncertainty, depression and fear. I've very rarely felt recognised or acknowledged. Perhaps I am a child of God but I'm not a churchgoer. When working I was a workaholic.

I hope the question helps you find yourself and empowers you. I'm sorry that I can't really help, but I didn't want to ignore your kind tag.

Best wishes

Dimity

Re: What is your idea of your identity?

I love this topic it brings up so many important topics and thoughts.

I have fought hard for my rights to identify as Non-Binary, likewise I had to advocate for my disability Identity, diagnosis for my own mental health.

It's difficult to fight for things you didn't think you would have to, rights become a badge won and the community around you fighting become apart of you.

I think that's where pacifism for me comes into things, I've battled a lot and I find no comfort in hurt, another's or mine.

At the end of it Identify for me has always been fluid whether I knew it or not, evolving is learning and that is lifelong I should hope we do not stagnant.
