What is your idea of your identity?

What is your idea of your identity?

Hi guys,

I am thinking about my identity and I am struggling to come up with things that don’t revolve around my roles eg. wife, mother, sister, aunt, church member.

I would say that I am creative and brutally honest.

I am hoping that you can suggest the kinds of things that you see as your identity besides your work and other roles. This will give me a spring board to give more more ideas about my own identity.

I would say that I have always struggled with my identity, when I was 19 I remember telling someone that I had no idea who I was. This person had a strong sense of identity and was very expressive in their appearance.

Thanks for any help here. Please tag others you think this may interest

hmm how to answer this question @Oaktree i never thought i would live past 18 my life has been in suspended animation ever since, my life just stopped. i guess how i would describe my identity as a ghost, invisible, a memory. i don't see myself as having any sort of identity. i guess never having had any sort of life i have not been able to form any sort of sense or meaning.

@Oaktree haven’t you got art in a University gallery?
Artistic

Not brutally honest. You are sensitive to other people’s emotions and supportive.

You are peaceful, grounded and enjoy your life. I think that is lovely.

Me? I am still evolving. I need to be ok with taking time to think about my response to people.

Thank you Glisten for your suggestions.
I think anyone who isn’t sure of the question or of their own identity might need to ponder this also. Maybe this thread will help you too?

@ArraDreaming

Identity is asking you who you think you are. Like if you were describing yourself, what would you say?

You are so lucky to have strong friendships. I would say that I am a good and loyal friend but I only really have two friends

That’s ok, maybe think on it and come back if or when you work it out. It’s totally ok not to know. That is where I am at too

Re: What is your idea of your identity?

Hi @Oaktree . As I am recently questioning my identity, I thought I might say some stuff here.

A man has many faces...I know that I am not my roles, but my roles consume my life so much that maybe I confuse them with who I really am.

I know that I am not the morals I was taught when growing up because I now know that some of them are wrong or don't work for me. Because of this, I know that I am not my inner judge, nor my inner victim either.

Am I my core values? If I pick 10 values right now, does that form my identity? Or are they just another code for me to follow mindlessly?

I know that I am stardust, and that I will return to the universe when I am dead, but who am I when I am alive in the dream of life?
