Never being in a relationship

Never being in a relationship

Does anyone here believe they are destined to not being in a relationship? I feel this way a lot as I feel like I’m not a desirable person.

I’ve worked hard to be content and satisfied in life but I feel like that’s just gaslighting myself to think that’s what I need to be accepted.

I feel so sad

Cool @Former-Member !

So was I.

I had prep/foundation right up to year 12. Mainly maths and sciences, but also taught english and hums.

It's a very female dominated industry. Do you get along with other teachers?

yeah for the most part, everything is quite civil. I have tried to organise things with other staff members that I get on with but its hard to find the time.

But other staff members have their social needs met through other people. I dont have that which also makes it hard.

Fair enough @Former-Member ,

When I was teaching, I just wanted to get out of school. I knew that if I went out with them, we'd all just talk school stuff anyway.

We had a lot of social events. I think in all my years, I only went to 2 - that was more than enough.

Then again, I'm not a talker. I prefer text communication (hence the forums).

I can be a talker but in the right circumstances, I become mute in a lot of social interactions. Probably why I am a loner

Do you enjoy your job @Former-Member ?

I found that a lot of my social needs were met by connecting with the students.

When I was in the darkest moments, it was the students who kept me going - honestly.

I do but it can be draining, particularly when I get home and have nothing in the tank.

I find that too but I worry thats not healthy

I know things are expensive at the moment, but would you look working to move out of home? @Former-Member Is a teacher's wage THAT bad? I was in a state school in Vic, and my wage wasn't bad.

What subjects do you teach?

What are you up to today?

But yes, with working with people, I really really thrive on helping others and I think that's where my social connections are driven. Of course I don't expect you to be the same, but I just wanted to let you know that I don't seek a relationship relationship because I feel my need for connection has been fulfilled.

Anyway, I won't go into it because I know we differ on this front.

Whatever it is, good to see you here anyway.

I am currently seeing a mortgage broker at the moment but it is hard. Particularly if you are moving out on your own and not in a relationship or moving in with someone. This is another area where society priorities relationships over being single.

I teach English and Humanities. Not much really, struggling to do much as I have no mental energy to do anything.

Maybe thats where we are different. We all have different needs and I feel like I have a lot of love to give but no one to give it to. I try to do it through my job and it does help but it's not the things I want. I want a relationship because it's a part of who I am as a person. I think this is where I think it looks like some people dismiss this part of my life because they dont understand or know what it's like to be me. I just want connection, why is that so hard to ask for? I believe there should be a single support group and there have already been people on here that have said they would like that. Yet nothing will get done because this is an area that society takes for granted and does not consider you a human if you don't have one.
