So I'm practicing enforcing boundaries and I think I did ok with this one.

Friend: If you’re at your art thing today, I’ll see how I go for the afternoon, and timing with school runs.

Me: I understand your time constraints, but I need a concrete answer. It is too disruptive to me to be waiting for an answer closer to the time. Maybe it's better that we organise a time when this can be achieved.

Does that sound ok? Firm but not angry? I didn't want to come across as soft but not harsh either...

I'm kind of over-sensirive to these sorts of things and not great at enforcing boundaries for fear of upsetting people, so my thoughts here may be a bit skewed towards that. So keep that in mind when I say I would 'warm it up' a bit. Something like....

I totally understand you're busy but I really need a clear answer as waiting until the last minute is very disruptive for me, so it would help a lot of we could lock in a time in advance. Maybe we could work out a time that will suit us both?

@MJG017 I needed it to be firm because any wiggle room they tend to think "oh she's not serious, she's fine". Any maybes get railroaded I find, but yes, I think this is a good first step as I'm still learning and will work on one skill at a time, that softness can come next.

I might be a bit more like @MJG017 but there is rarely one correct way to handle relationships.

I am finding it better to be able to talk about this stuff though.
