Re: Coping with lonlieness
Visiting the local library or community house. They often run classes or get togethers. Lots are free. The local aged care center, kindergarten or schools would love some volunteers. You could help with reading time at school. Chat and games. Etc. Quite often these activities are one on one - so easier for those who may find groups hard.
If you like to walk - maybe join a walking group - or walk a neighbours dog - if they find it hard.
smile and say hello to strangers. When walking past someones house - comment on how beautiful their garden is. Compliment someone on their hair or dress. Ask where they bought it.
Sometimes a simple statement can lead to a conversation. Sometimes conversations can lead to a cup of tea. Etc

Good ideas @utopia
I like to take a walk to the shops in fair weather - people are always sitting outside the coffee shop with their dogs and of course I know what they are waiting for - so I provide it - I go up to them and chat about their dogs for a few minutes - that is always a winner
But no way will my cat go for a walk to the coffee shop with me - but one thing we can learn is to be comfortable with our own company - it takes a long time to get here though
That word "should" - I think rather the word to apply to your work assignment is "ought" because ought implies "can" - personally "should" annoys me because I get the feeling that I "should" be doing what someone else wants me to do - or something I can't do right now - for whatever reason
I hope this makes sense
About being alone after leaving the ex behind - that can be hard - it was easier for me when I got my ex husband out of my life after my dd had left home - the first time I left she was 7 and whined to go back to her father - and whined and whined and whined until I went back - and I was not prepared then for a life alone -
But once we make a decision to leave - then we need to have plans or it is so much harder
I have been there and not sorry I went back - it's a very complicated story - for my sake it would have been better to have stayed away - but for my daughter - it was better to go back
That is so complicated - but one thing - I had a Yale Lock put on my bedroom door and told my ex it was over - I only came back because I needed him to help me with the kids - after all - they were his children too
I care and I hear you

Any compliment - whether about someone's pet or garden is always good. But dogs and kids are a great way to meet people.

Hi @Starshine.
How have your Saturdays gone?
I'm just about to brave the wild outdoors and water the plants I put in last week.
The mosquitos are ferocious this year. Wish me luck.

Re: Coping with lonlieness
Got plenty of bites last night.
I've heard 'Game of Thrones' is really good - but I haven't watched it.
Volunteering. That sounds interesting
And will get you out a bit more -especially when you feel like isolating yourself.
Where will you be volunteering and what will you be doing?
