You're Invited - Live Online Event in the Yarning Space, 27th May (Have your say!)

Hello,

 

Thank you for joining the "Yarning Space" subforum! It’s deadly to have you involved.

 

I am an Aboriginal man from Yuin Country, employed at SANE as the Social Emotional Wellbeing Manager (SEWB), my role is to embed a Social and Emotional Wellbeing (SEWB) Framework into SANE’s programs and services which includes the forums, and the new Yarning Space currently being trialed and co-designed.

 

We would like to invite you to a special live event to provide us with some feedback about the yarning space and start the process of co-designing the future look and feel of the space as it's important that we know what’s important to you. The event will be a live online group discussion led by SANE and co-hosted by @ArraDreaming. Participants that join the event and contribute will be compensated for their time.

 

When: Monday 27th May 7:00pm to 8:30pm AEST

 

How to participate? Simply login at 7:00pm and join the live conversation by replying to some questions. Questions will be posted during this time, so you and others can respond and provide feedback. 

 

We would love to get some feedback from you about:

  • How easy it is to sign up
  • How easy it is to find the space after you have signed up
  • How easy is it to post
  • Whether we keep the space invitation only but make it visible on the SANE Forums page.
  • What does SEWB mean to you and how can we make the space culturally safe, responsive to your needs, and unique compared to the other Forums?
  • What content would you like to see
  • What design would you like to see
  • Other suggestions/feedback

What is co-design? “Co-design” refers to a participatory approach to designing solutions, in which community members are treated as equal collaborators in the design process.

Given that culture and language has come up a few times tonight, what would you like to see/learn in this space to help people connect with culture and language whilst in an online space?

I would love for this to be a place where we can learn about our cultures and connect more with our mobs and country. Maybe the forums could find out where we all come from and invite Elders from our places to come speak on the forums as a starting place. Then we could connect and learn about our mob and then others as well. Compare and contrast. Different mobs have different dreamtime stories for instance. There is a lot we could all learn

One way to do this could be information sharing about stuff happening in our communities eg indigenous art exhibitions, cultural museums, celebration events ( eg NAIDOC etc)

That's deadly that you're on country. Yes, dig deeper when you're ready, connect with your mob, find a cultural mentor and embrace your culture. It's our identity and is what keeps us strong. I too live on country, my younger brothers connect more than due to work and kids but every opportunity I take, I spend time talking to my mob and going on country and learning about our places that we need to protect and connect with.

Next question:

Can you give us some feedback about userbility? 

Think about when you first signed up to the Yarning Space: 

  • How easy was it to post? 
  • How could we improve it, especially for new members? 
  • What annoys you the most about userbility? 
  • Should we keep this Yarning Space ‘invitation only’ but make it visible on the main SANE Forums page?

It’s quite hard around here @SouthsNo1. There aren’t many elders or members around. There isn’t a good history here. It wasn’t a safe place.

There's some amazing feedback here. Sounds like we need more champions to championing the work and do some more yarning.

 

Any ideas how we can do this on an online community? The virtual space is something new for many of us.

- I think it is pretty easy to use and see the different threads

- The signing up via email to access the hub was easy and the sane forums as a hole was a straight forward process.
I have a direct link but without it people may struggle once they have signed up about how to actually get onto it.


· I think we should we keep the space invitation only but make it visible on the SANE Forums page. It needs to be visible I think but invite only still.

Some technical glitches can’t be prevented, however I have being some How To ijstrictionals on the hub
