Hey, @Former-Member,
yep, I mean that a lot of the time I am inauthentic with people. However, when I am alone with my artwork, my books and listening to music, then I feel like I am being my authentic self. This is the self that is pretty much 'out there', but that strangely no-one really ever sees. I am very creative, a lateral thinker, I like a challenge, I like intellectual stimulation and abstract ideas....
In my normal every day life I don't ever meet anyone who is like this. The closest I ever came was in art school. Most of my friends from art school drifted away. I realise this was partly due to my MI.
Most of my interactions with people now consist of me pretending to be interested in what they are talking about - social gossip, money, property, holidays, wine and clothes. Luckily for me, I am actually quite good at talking about most things - this come from being intuitive and perceptive and from reading a lot and keeping up with the 'news'. I am also good at reading body language and taking social cues. This probably comes from being artistic and so being a good observer.
However, I very rarely manage to do more than scratch the surface with most people, partly because I am shy and partly because I believe my authentic self would be off-putting to most people.
My greatest satisfaction in life comes from my private inner world where I contemplate ideas and reseach all kinds of topics and create art. I don't think people really 'get' this. I doubt I would get it, either, if it weren't my reality!
I try to put myself in other people's shoes and to understand the way they live, ie, 'the rat race' but I can't do it. Or if I do, my understanding is very fleeting.
@Former-Member, that's great that you blocked the number of the sarcastic drunkard!! I would have blocked his number after the very first aggressive text message! Absolutely! I would have done it with pride.
I have gotten rid of plenty of people from my life by not answering calls, blocking numbers or simply telling them to 'rack off'. (mainly ex-lovers.) With female friends I am much nicer, but there has been one or two that I've had to send very abrupt emails to! This has worked for me. I am proud of my ability to get rid of people from my life and move on.
The thing with my friend from the dream is that she has been going through a very rough period for the past 15 years, but she has absolutely no malice in her. I even kind of like her. It's just that our interactions are pretty much one-sided and unrewarding. I believe that's what the dream was showing me... that in many ways, our friendship is 'dead'.
However, if she continues to call me, I will take her calls, as I'm not really losing anything by chatting to her. But I think that on a very deep, subconscious level, she will somehow realise that these calls just aren't rewarding anymore and will call less often.
