A strange dream and it's meaning...

A strange dream and it's meaning...

Hi everyone,

a few nights ago I had a dream in which I learnt my friend died. In the dream I was a bit surprised that she had died, but I wasn't sad about it, in fact I felt nothing much at all. She is relatively young and healthy - so I didn't expect she would go and die; that's all.

In the dream, I decide that I'll write a nice tribute to her on facebook. I don't even really feel like I want to do that much, but I know I have to be seen to do something socially acceptable, so that is what I decide I must do.

What a strange dream!! Me in super-uncaring mode!

In reality, my friend is perfectly fine. I have had a very long history of somewhat uncomfortable interactions with her that culminated in a tense argument over 10 years ago. Since then, we have not exactly been close, although we go through all the motions of being good to each other and sharing news of our private lives.

Recently, I had the thought that I'm very glad she doesn't call me often, as I don't like the way she pumps me for advice and then rings off. The conversation seems quite one-sided, at times.

Anyone else out there ever had a dream like this? Such a strange dream!!

@Sahara. I just read about your dream.
How lucky you are to be able to recall this dream and then have the time and opportunity of working out its meaning for you.
Life is about constant change and growing. Friendships often serve a particular purpose. Maybe there was a lesson for you and this friend, that you got through your friendship at one time.
Could it be that you have learnt what you need from her & now it is time to move on?
Could it be that your next learning journey may involve how you feel about other peoplespperceptions of you?
Just some thoughts from me.

Last night I had a weird warped dream as a teacher.

I was an emergency teacher in about grade 3-4, full class up to 4o kids.

Had todo the job tho the authorities knew I was not fully trained.

All sorts silly things happened. far from comfortable but no real dramas compared to my life .. just kept picking self up and getting on with it .. kids giving me hell... but just being kids .. mostly it was my anxiety getting me into ..

crafty trouble .. ie .. things caught on my clothes becasue of sticky tape or pin .. and everything .. like kids art works etc and my clothes .. catching on to each other.

Yeah .. weird.

It sounds like you are experiencing a wave of inner turmoil @Appleblossom given the dream you had. Sending you warm hugs. I hope in the days ahead you can find some moments of cherished inner peace. Something I am craving myself at the moment. It will come to us eventually.

Hi @Sahara - I hope your day is turning out better than expected and all is well. Thinking of you. Merry Christmas to you all 💕

Re: A strange dream and it's meaning...

Thanks all,

Christmas was fine... I enjoyed the cooking and didn't feel all that stressed when it was actually happening. I took time out to take my Dad's dog for a walk by myself and also to take a nap on Xmas day. I also took a long shower, just to have some down-time, before dinner last night. No-one seemed to miss me.

Things like this really, really help my anxiety, because I don't feel that I have to be constantly 'switched on' and present for everyone all the time. I can easily get overloaded.

The last person left our house a few hours ago, so it was really only just over 48 hours of mayhem!! Now I can veg out.

Yes @Former-Member

I am just letting it wash over me

but it also left me with a .. sense of being more accepting of the range of human emotions .. like a teacher encounters in a class .. and not to take it all personally .. it justt is ,, and to be less comtrolling and critical of my performance ..

so ease up on self and those whom I interact or may at times lead. There are different community models .. and

I would love to hear more from @Sahara about arts leadership and community ..

another thread maybe ...either of you like Robyn Archer??

Re: A strange dream and it's meaning...

Hi @Appleblossom,

I'm so sorry I don't think I know who Robyn Archer is?

About your dream...I am thinking that maybe all those children are different aspects of your psyche all vying for attention and making you feel flustered? But the fact that they are drawing and painting and being creative is a good thing... it's positive. But sometimes I think even positive energy can feel overwhelming? Especially if you don't know in which direction you need to go?

Hey, my community arts project is going ok. It's just simmering along. I could go down there today if I really wanted to, but I'll probably take another day off.

The good news is that I made a sale! One of my paintings. And I have a commission to do another painting, which I could think about starting today.

With arts management... it's a lot like any kind of management, really. I used to have to manage a team of people in a former place of employment. You have to really listen to people and sort out what they want.... if you can give the majority of people what they want, then you have more hope of getting them to work together and make progress. The ones who don't get their own way will soon leave, I've discovered. So you have to keep on recruiting new people!! Eh.

Hi @utopia,

thanks for writing. Yes, I believe my dream signifies that I am letting this particular friend go. It's a bit tricky as she is very, very close to the lady who I call my 'best friend'. (Not that I use that term out loud, or anything )

My Dad is also somewhat close to her parents... so there will never be an actual break. I will always have news or her and she will always have news of me. We will probably still run into each other through my 'best friend'.

My 'best friend' seems to have a different experience of this woman and finds so much good in her. I often just find her hard work. One psychologist I spoke to seemed to think that this is entirely possible and that we do develop different relationships with different friends.

My best friend says that she goes out with this woman and has fun. But I only ever see her unhappy. The psychologist thought that once this woman found me to be a sympathetic ear, she saved up all her problems just for me, and spared her other friends! Yeah, great.

Re: A strange dream and it's meaning...

@Sahara. My best friend has another friend who she gets on really well with. I've tried many times. But I find her negative & just plain uninteresting and boring. I can't help how I feel. This woman just does nothing for me. Yet my best friend thinks she's great.
Different strokes for different folks.
Strange though.

Re: A strange dream and it's meaning...

Hi @utopia. Interesting reading your musings. I think that after our teenage years, we all tend to show a different 'face' to different people to an extent. Not that we are all psychopaths! Just that we engage differently according to the nature of our connections with people. And yes, I have been surprised many times at how one degree of separation can make such a difference - that is, I have no connection with the friend of my friend. Zilch. Nada. Zero. Nothin. It is a bit strange, but I think it's because of that thing of us all having different facets to our public personae.

its not that we are inauthentic necessarily. I love to swear like a trooper, but wouldn't dream of doing so in most contexts and with most people. Just with my other swearing mates. Ha ha ha ha. Childish. Maybe that's why I like it?

but that moment when we realise that we no longer 'want to be friends' with someone is quite scary, and it takes a lot of courage to follow through on no longer having that person's influence on our life. I think it is, however, a natural part of the human experience. We are all in a perpetual state of change.
