Something’s not right

Stuck and can’t escape it.

Stuck and can’t escape it.

Hey,

things are hard and I just can’t seem to escape it, I went to the emergency room last night hoping to get the help I needed from mental health clinicians but they basically sent me on my way, I had SH which was why I went and they still discharged me, I ended up calling them crying for help and they told me to go home and try my coping skills, barely even made it home without having a massive crying episode and having to take myself back for them to just tell me I’m fine and discharge me again.

I feel like I’m just a burden and mistake, it feels all to overwhelming, they are supposed to be there to support you not just send you on your way when your basically in crisis.

the nurse I got when I came back was really rude to me she was a mental health person and basically told me to go home and try my coping skills.[edited by moderator] I was upset and really not feeling great mentally.

im just stuck on what to do, I feel like I just can’t escape it…..

am safe

@Former-Member - people need to learn some respect…. There’s so much stigma around mental health.

Hey there @creative_writer 🙂🌺

Yes sadly, it’s all too often isn’t it 😔❤️‍🩹

My jaw dropped reading your experience - I’m so glad you moved on quickly 🙌🏻🙂🌺

@Fluttershy1 that would be a great option that @creative_writer suggested (changing support team) if possible..? 🙂💜🌺

You’re so right @Fluttershy1 💜💜🌺🌺

I hope it helps to know that I’m now one of the people that puts my big foot in it as often as I can to engage in systemic advocacy in mental health service delivery - I’m only new and haven’t got it down pat just yet, but I’m loud when I need to be ☺️🫂💜🌺

I know not everyone can participate in trying to improve things, but there are a bunch out there who are trying to change things, and we aren’t giving up 💜💜🙂🌺

@Fluttershy1 and @Former-Member even the MH professionals stigmatise their clients at times too. MH system needs a huge makeover. I do feel that if you struggle with MH, your physical symptoms may easily get attributed to your mental health. Yes mental and physical health are intertwined. I also find they have a bidirectional relationship, poor physical health can affect your mental health too. I know when my migraines are bad, I’m more anxious. One of the symptoms is mood changes. Stress may cause migraines, but migraines may cause anxiety. Humans are complicated

Re: Stuck and can’t escape it.

I agree with that very much, regarding MH practitioners and system being stigmatising - part of the problem is that currently there isn’t any mechanisms in practice that prevent this happening in the first place, sadly, @creative_writer ❤️‍🩹🌺

Yes that concept you’ve raised regarding bidirectional influence/response between mental health and physical health exists for sure, and often is misinterpreted in the current systems we have, I think (there could be way better recognition of how this works, to help people appropriately)💜

Re: Stuck and can’t escape it.

@Former-Member, it is very off putting when someone talks negatively about their clients or about you as their client. I was actually allocated another therapist a year ago who I had three sessions with, when she started talking about how negative one of her clients was, I basically shut down.

The system needs to start looking at people more holistically and needs a more person centred approach. I once had a GP who said just to go to emergency for migraines because he couldn’t give me another pain relief. That wouldn’t be the first line action, you would be exploring more OTC or prescription options (which there are) before sending someone off to ED

Re: Stuck and can’t escape it.

Yes @creative_writer 🌺

I completely agree, and I find it highly inappropriate if a practitioner says something about someone in a personal way. If someone has given permission for a part of their deidentified story to be used respectfully, then that’s one thing that if handled sensitively is ok, but if a practitioner speaks in any way referencing personal aspects -especially if negative - that is so not how it should be done. I can really understand why you have said you shut down ❤️‍🩹

I think you’re right again regarding holistic approaches being much better, while remaining person centred.
There is already overload on hospital systems with reference to the GP experience you’ve mentioned - it doesn’t seem logical, does it? 😔

It sounds like you have a good radar for picking up what is right for you 🙂🌺

Re: Stuck and can’t escape it.

@Former-Member, it didn’t sit well with me. The therapist started with telling me she thought a client was borderline because she was so negative in her thinking. Like the client would complain the house wasn’t clean enough or something. I honestly don’t remember. I don’t think it’s fair to discriminate someone for being BDP (borderline). Maybe it was the tone of voice, and I’m not even sure that client was even diagnosed. MIs overlap. Sometimes I find it hard to tease where my distress is coming from too, e.g., whether it’s bipolar or cptsd related to both for example.

Hospitals are under a lot of pressure. I sadly haven’t found a GP I fully feel comfortable with. My MH team are good, but can’t say I feel fully safe with them either

Re: Stuck and can’t escape it.

Yeah @creative_writer , that’s really not right at all, is it 😔🌺💜

It’s unfair to discriminate just because a person may be living with BPD, and I’d like to add, for any MH challenge that a person is living with ❤️‍🩹

I also appreciate your point well made regarding MI’s overlapping and not knowing which may be the reason for particular symptoms - this can be hard…I find that I’m sometimes questioning that myself regarding my own experience with C-PTSD and anxiety and social phobia and cognitive changes…overlap.. it’s a thing, for sure! 🙂🌺

yes unfortunately our hospitals are under resourced in a number of ways, aren’t they…❤️‍🩹

Its so hard to find good care professionals, where we can place a lot of trust, I agree.
I hope one day things can change 🙂🌺💜

Hey, do you have any plans for the weekend? 🙂

@Former-Member - I can’t change support teams, it’s a community one….. I got a new case manager which is helpful.
