Something’s not right

Stuck and can’t escape it.

Stuck and can’t escape it.

Hey,

things are hard and I just can’t seem to escape it, I went to the emergency room last night hoping to get the help I needed from mental health clinicians but they basically sent me on my way, I had SH which was why I went and they still discharged me, I ended up calling them crying for help and they told me to go home and try my coping skills, barely even made it home without having a massive crying episode and having to take myself back for them to just tell me I’m fine and discharge me again.

I feel like I’m just a burden and mistake, it feels all to overwhelming, they are supposed to be there to support you not just send you on your way when your basically in crisis.

the nurse I got when I came back was really rude to me she was a mental health person and basically told me to go home and try my coping skills.[edited by moderator] I was upset and really not feeling great mentally.

im just stuck on what to do, I feel like I just can’t escape it…..

am safe

@Former-Member - I tell them how it is and if they don’t like it they can go. I left a few weekends ago because I didn’t like the treatment I was provided by the MH team….

@creative_writer - it’s so true, they just can tell you it’s all in your head when it isn’t….. I don’t understand our systems, we need a whole new makeover and people who understand MH and don’t stigmatise it.

I understand @Fluttershy1 💜🌺

Glad you have a new case manager though - I hope they can push improvements 🙂🌺

I saw your post regarding leaving hospital when the MH team aren’t responding well - I do understand and can relate ❤️‍🩹🌺

first priority is you 🙂💜🌺

Re: Stuck and can’t escape it.

@Former-Member, I think it’s important that someone has the expertise to diagnose something, rather than saying “I think this person has…”.

MI is tricky, I’ve had moments where I realised my CPTSD symptoms probably escalated due to an escalation in bipolar. I haven’t always been good at recognising the red flags. It’s messy. I totally feel you with social anxiety, mine used to be so bad, and I still get it. I find social events stimulating, so there is the ASD coming into the mix too. You can probably see how ASD and anxiety may be related. I find myself stimming, sometimes to my own detriment. I have uni stuff to do over the weekend, lots of catch up work because of migraine flare up, and I think I got a bug, again. Do you have any plans?

@Fluttershy1, we need more compassionate and empathetic MH professionals, maybe some with lived experience. I know I have quite a few people in my course with some lived experience

Indeed @creative_writer 🙂🌺

I think the overlapping nature you’ve so eloquently described makes diagnosis a process that is highly complex - but, not impossible, and guesswork or incomplete diagnostic methods leave room for a lot of personal uncertainty and barriers to accessing help, imho 💜🌺

I hear you very well regarding the nature of having more than one MH condition or effect happening at one time, and with fluctuations in one, which can then influence another - I picture the bar graphs 📊 of a hifi equaliser display, with the equivalent of different MH conditions pushing up the bars and dropping others, changing the combinations depending on which tends to impact on another 🌺

And with this happening, recognising this in the early stages is not easy - I think our brains are already busy, and so ‘detection monitoring’ is not on the radar while we have multiple symptoms going on 💜🌺

Not sure how close I am to being correct; however this is what it kind of feels like, I think 🙂🌺

I’m sorry to hear things get so complex, and then migraines are thrown into the mix ❤️‍🩹🌺
I hope study and catch up goes well over the weekend, and you can feel better (hopefully you don’t have a bug) ☺️🌺

I’m going to be face-planting into a text book at some stage too, hehe 😉

I hope you get to relax a bit this evening🙂🌺

Re: Stuck and can’t escape it.

@Former-Member, maybe there is too much emphasis on diagnosis. DSM can be flawed. CPTSD isn’t even an official diagnosis on the DSM, only on the ICD. CPTSD has some key differences from PTSD,

I think I’m getting better at recognising when things are getting out of control, and the triggers. Mixed episodes are the worst for my MH. It’s the trickiest time to stay safe. It was super bad earlier this year. It’s summer and the days are so long, it gets harder to sleep. Maybe my brain does get busy in the initial stages, it does build up over time too.

I think I probably do have a bug though. Eating soft food hurts my jaw, I did have a sore throat the other day, it does feel a bit tender on one side. I think chronic inflammation makes one prone to getting ill so easily.

Haha, I need to plant my face into module content and my assignment. I want to get the test and assignment out of the way, they’re not worth a huge amount compared to other assessments. I’m more worried about the assignment after next week, that one is 40%. I’ll get an extension if need be.

I hope you relax up this evening too 🩷🫂🙂

Re: Stuck and can’t escape it.

@Fluttershy1, it is a double edged sword going into a MH profession with lived experience. I remember being in a uni lecture and I started zoning out. At least I was around people so I couldn’t do anything I would regret later. Lived experience does provide enough layer of in depth knowledge of what it is like to be struggling with mental illness and what it is like navigating the system. One just needs to be on top of their self care. I burnt out from being a Lifeline crisis supporter because I did not take enough care. I think self care makes me feel selfish, it’s weird. I’m so used to trying to make other people feel comfortable at the expense of my own wellbeing
