Hello Everyone

Love to hear from others on the forum if you experience this

My hubby has been diagnosed with lots of things and has had MI all his life

do you find things goes ok and i start to feel confident and wanting to go forward and then everytime something always happens to upset it -- sometimes I think is it a controlling thing ?? that he wants to be in control ??

Don`t know if I am making this up , but i have that feeling ,

Re: Ups and Downs of Husband`s Mental Illness

Hi @Former-Member .... 😊💕

Saw an eating disorders counsellor today ....

She was able to confirm all of my understandings so far re WH ..... yes, he is anorexic but within the realm of EDNOS because he is maintaining a body-weight within the normal range which is a criteria for diagnosis of anorexia outright .....

Yes, he could collapse tomorrow, but it is also possible he could continue as is for quite some time yet, in a physical capacity .....

Yes, he is progressively painting himself into a corner with more and more extreme OCD behaviours, indicating that his sense of security is not remaining placated with the set of behaviours he is using for support, so he is reaching for more ... and these won't hold .... so he will reach for more .... eventually realising that his world can't be sustained this way ....

Yes, he is still in the Precontemplative state of the Stages of Change model ..... so pushing against him will only incite a hostile reaction .... however others beyond our home pushing against him can help hasten him towards the Contemplative state ....

The kids and I are doing amazingly well ... he is lucky to have us .....

His control systems failing are what will lead him to need help, whether through a health crisis that lands him in hospital or reaching an emotional spin-out .....

We need to gently keep indicating to him that what he is doing is not okay with us, but that we will tolerate it ...... but not if it becomes too emotionally abusive, and I am the one who needs to make the call over that .....

So .... sorta a confirmation that we are on the right track, and keep going as best we can.

@Faith-and-Hope it really hard to know how much to tolerate and when to push, isn't it? Too tired to write more tonight, but it's a fine line we walk between support and enabling poor behaviour. Hugs

Hello @Former-Member, I don't think we have! How are you? 🙂

I'm on this forum for myself and my partner. He was diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder about 3 years ago. He has his ups and downs but is truely a great person. He had a particularly hard day today, and I'm sad to say I don't think I dealt with it very well either. I had a horrible night sleep last night and have felt a bit overwhelmed today.
We have a wedding to go to tomorrow, so I'm hoping we both get a good sleep tonight and can enjoy ourselves. I hope all is well with you.

Hey @Shaz51 and @Determind! Hope you're both doing well!

Hi @Former-Member how are things for you? Been thinking of you and hubby.

Rain has cleared here, the river is still rising though. Fortunately we are high and dry so aok, and there are no offical warnings for town so hoping it stays that way for everyone in town.

Hi @Littleshining1

Thinking of you at the moment, it must be hard to balance that and work. I got a call from my wife recently in a complete meltdown just minutes before an exam at uni, rattled me to the point I contemplated ditching the exam to go home, so while different circumstances I can in some way feel your pain. For us everything turned out ok, she was able to send little one to gran and sleep it off.

Trust your week away goes well and you areable to get the rest you need and unwind. I may not have any answers but alsays happy to be an ear, as is everyone else here.
