Ups and Downs of Husband`s Mental Illness

Hello @PeppiPatty, over here my special friend xx

Hello Everyone

Love to hear from others on the forum if you experience this

My hubby has been diagnosed with lots of things and has had MI all his life

do you find things goes ok and i start to feel confident and wanting to go forward and then everytime something always happens to upset it -- sometimes I think is it a controlling thing ?? that he wants to be in control ??

Don`t know if I am making this up , but i have that feeling ,

Glad your mum is home. @Shaz51

Its hard re partners on meds. Meds alone are not really sufficient treatment ... regardless of which med ... IMHO.

Trust mum settling in back at hi.e @Shaz51.

Agree with you entirely @Appleblossom. I quote from an article I read:

Medications do not cure a psychiatric disease; we’re not even sure what the disease actually is. What they can do is reduce symptoms, give you strength—so that you can learn new behaviors. That’s the point of medications. Treating depression with an antidepressant is not the solution; it’s the preliminary step in allowing you to figure out how to handle depression later on. The adaptation, the adjustment, the physical altering of brain functioning is done by new learning, often this is therapy (though it doesn’t have to be.) I’m not saying therapy is that great, or necessary, either. I’m simply saying that trying to improve a person’s long term status using medications alone without some sort of education and training is a waste of time. It is maybe the most profound disservice of all to tell a patient that their depressive or bipolar symptoms are the result of biology or chemical imbalances and thus absolve them of the responsibility of learning new ways of interpreting and coping with their environment.

oh @Shaz51

my heart goes out to you...

life can be so testing when there is so much physical pain and illness surrounding us on top of mental health...

Mr Shaz probably struggles seeing your mum in that way as he knows that you are affected also..

Hopefully your mum might settle and rest with new dressing...

are you and Mr Shaz able to watch a favourite film together...cuddle up ...something to bring a smile to your faces

thinking of you xx
