Ups and Downs of Husband`s Mental Illness

Ups and Downs of Husband`s Mental Illness

Hello @PeppiPatty, over here my special friend xx

Hello Everyone

Love to hear from others on the forum if you experience this

My hubby has been diagnosed with lots of things and has had MI all his life

do you find things goes ok and i start to feel confident and wanting to go forward and then everytime something always happens to upset it -- sometimes I think is it a controlling thing ?? that he wants to be in control ??

Don`t know if I am making this up , but i have that feeling ,

Hi @Former-Member + everyone

Running on empty @Former-Member. Spent another day at uni today working on assessment and more work to do tomorrow. Will be so glad when this semester is over 😫

Went out for dinner tonight as a family for my darlings birthday.
Despite some tensions in preparations the night went well and was enjoyable so that was nice. I almost cancelled so glad now I didn't

How are you and Mr D?

Re: Ups and Downs of Husband`s Mental Illness

Glad meal out went well @Determined, you have been busy with uni so time with family is nice.

Things here going relatively steady; Mr D anxiety variable. I am not sure what to make of a lot of things. Back to pdoc this week and am hoping for some clarity, but who knows, I might end up even more confused ...

Re: Ups and Downs of Husband`s Mental Illness

Does anyone else have to help their significant others manage side effects?

Have had Mr D howling in the bathroom for the 3rd time this morning -constipation - thank goodness this time evacuation of the bowels occurred. He gets so upset if his daily routine even if matters like this are interrupted. This was a big problem when he was on a few drugs at the same time and laxatives were required but has not happened for a while. Mr D has been doing a lot better with our healthy eating - also helps with weight management too. Trying to take a holistic approach to our health care.

I realised that for the last 4 days we had not been having adequate fibre (veggies). Our freezer got low - mainly because we had been going into town more to get fresh veg and had reached a stage where proteins were also being bought daily.
As a consequence we did not have at minimum a couple of weeks supply in cold storage which concerned me so I did a big shop, getting extra meat and sauces. I did not realise how low the frozen veg had got.
Thinking we have plenty of food, Mr D has not gone in to town every couple of days to get fresh greens, just getting meat out the freezer so we have not had salads at lunch and have had less veg with evening meals (sometimes none).

I tell you, the things we have to deal with as carers ...!

Re: Ups and Downs of Husband`s Mental Illness

Hugs @Former-Member .......

For us it is the emotional eggshells ..... anticipating blow-ups, rages, rants ......other forms of not coping .....

Was actually impressed that mr. f&h gave himself a time-out the other night, when he arrived back here (west) to find an electrical loop on the house had tripped out, shutting off the fridge in the garage where he keeps his food supplies which he was relying on for this trip back .......

He mentioned it to the kids last night, saying he had been throwing cases around and swearing his head off ..... before putting himself to bed in the spare room.

I only knew he had put himself to bed in the spare room, which is not unusual ..... but maybe he has started a pattern of time-outs when he is not coping ......, which would be brilliant ...... and maybe a reaction to being pulled in over his behaviour by the various psychs the rest of us are attending ......

Hang in there @Former-Member ...... you are doing an amazing job ❣️

I have given up on trying to influence diet here as it is percieved as control and results in everyone doing the opposite despite the above mentioned problems. Even when the dr gives the same advice on diet.
