Hello @PeppiPatty, over here my special friend xx

Hello Everyone

Love to hear from others on the forum if you experience this

My hubby has been diagnosed with lots of things and has had MI all his life

do you find things goes ok and i start to feel confident and wanting to go forward and then everytime something always happens to upset it -- sometimes I think is it a controlling thing ?? that he wants to be in control ??

Don`t know if I am making this up , but i have that feeling ,

@Former-Member

M darling also asked on Friday if we could go and see our pastor to discuss things and get a recommendation for a councillor because she wants to 'fix things' this was also a big step for us,

I am loving seeing her spend so much time with the children at the moment, she has been watching a childrens christmas movie with them each night and this afternoon while I was crashed out on the couch and bub was sleeping she palyed a board game with them. All positive steps that I am grateful for even if there is still tension betwèen us. It has given me renewed hope and strength at a time when I was beginning to loose hope and strength .

I’ll be in that group hug @Former-Member @Determined ....

That is something I am grateful for @Determined ..... mr. f&h intends to be close and giving with the kids, even if he is falling asleep 15mins into the family movies he requests to have with them, or comes out to restaurants and cafes for dinner, but doesn’t eat anything ...... just sits there with us over a glass of water. I think it would be so much worse if he didn’t engage at all, but still tried to control everyone and everything. This way we can still see him in there somewhere, trapped by his illness into being a shadow of himself.

@Faith-and-Hope
Your situation is so very different and I always hope that I don't say the wrong thing but as I do with all the up and downers I pray for you and us, that we will live well in spite of our partners mental illness and that we will feel love and appreciation from them.

@Emmet

This is a thread where we talk about supporting our spouses, it may be of some benifit to you. Everyone here is friendly and happy to help.

Re: Ups and Downs of Husband`s Mental Illness

Hi @Emmet
Had a quick read of your story and can empathise with you. Not only is there the debilitating effects of MI but then there are the drug side effects ... finding a good balance can take a long time. My Mr Darcy had been through a whole gamut of drugs and a few diagnoses. I have had to do a lot of my own research on psych disorders and the drugs used to treat them to gain a little understanding of what is going on. There is certainly a lot if grief in the process.
Can I ask is your partner male or female? Don't want to put my foot in it by saying the wrong thing.

Hey @Emmet
Diagnosis (Dx) is another of those things, like you say we all have ups and downs. Dx happens if symptoms affect ability to work/function due to them, I will tag you in post about bipolar that I found helpful.

On this forum what you may notice are many references to self care and what we carers can do to cope so that we are able to continue caring with the ones we love.
