Re: Ups and Downs of Husband`s Mental Illness

I would like to ask the various contributors on this thread a question about father-son relationship.

It involves my ex who mentioned that my son had become aggressive twice in a meeting they had last week. I was not present. I asked my ex "did it come directly from my son or was it in reaction to something said". My ex said that it was in reaction as he had scoffed a few times at my son who is in an extremely serious situation. Then justified it as that my son will meet others who "scoff".

I feel that my ex husband who is 10 years older than me is in many ways less mature than my son. I am appalled.

He had a serious mental illness when I met him, which he now denies, but I worked hard and patiently helped tease out the delusional thinking and focussed on encouraging the clear thinking and he did do much better. He is not able to empathise or show care and compassion, mainly silly smart alec stuff.

Please, @Determined @soul @Faith-and-Hope @Shaz51 @Former-Member and ...

What do you think?

Males tend to respond aggresssively when they are upset @Appleblossom ... women more often with tears .... but tears can also provoke an aggressive response in men ..... speaking generally, of course. Particularly if he felt scoffed at (read: invalidated) it stands to reason.

Experiencing delusional thinking in WH at the moment, when his reality is in any way challenged ....

Hope this helps ....

Hi @Appleblossom
This is not something I have had to deal with as Mr D is kind and thoughtful, his psychotic delusion was non bizarre and religious. I don't quite understand his confused thinking but he does not see the need to rile others.

Re: Ups and Downs of Husband`s Mental Illness

Good morning @Former-Member @Appleblossom

I am experiencing the opposite with wh. Not religious, but extremely controlling, and confrontational and riling when crossed in any sense ..... although under our current state of affairs, that can quickly turn to "who me ? don't know what you're talking about !" and a projection that the slights were imagined and the controlling was misunderstood.

The delusional thinking is something else again.
