Oscillation between two mind sets

Oscillation between two mind sets

Sometimes I feel like I’m on top of things and don’t feel like my trauma defines me and I don’t feel so ashamed and scared. Other times I want to hide from the world and feel like a **** (I’m not going to say the word here since I don’t want to trigger anyone) 😭, I feel so ashamed that I don’t want people to know

Mm it sucks having to hide it or come up with excuses for your parents hey @creative_writer.

Hmm yeah it might be kinda busy, and it's only open for another hour. Alas! You could always give it a go and like if you're on hold for more than 10 min just hang up, but if there's a chance that you could get through sooner, is it worth trying anyway? How about Lifeline chat or SCBS chat, have you had much luck with those?

As for stumbling over words - we've all been there, and I know that the counsellor would be super understanding. You could write a few points down beforehand too.

In any case, we're always here to support you on forums so if there's anything you wanna chat about here, I'm happy to listen. If you're not sure if you could post it on the forums you can always email us first too.

Re: Oscillation between two mind sets

@Birdofparadise8, i found a service that provides 30min peer support session for like 14 sessions. Though I can also rejoin guided service again if needed afterwards since I referred myself a year ago.

@Jynx, on call right now but I’m not going to wait long, as you said SANE will be closing soon. Lifeline and SCBS are a hit or miss. I have a lot of things going through my mind, but I don’t want to be too open for not only the safety of others but also my own mental health wellbeing. I am grappling with confusion. If I was going to be totally honest, I know I was SA, but there are gaps and pieces that I can’t fill in and I’m not sure if I’ll ever be able to fill in. It’s a bit unsettling that there are gaps, but then do I really need to understand it all? It might hurt me after all. Some of those gaps did get filled in over time, and I made realisations but it took me years to even get there and it wasn’t a smooth process and it did hurt so much

What's the service @creative_writer

Is it Melbouren based over the phone or something?

I want to get back into he GS as well, but when i do it. It won't let me because of my post code but I was told by the people when I used it last year I would be able to get in okay.

Re: Oscillation between two mind sets

That's odd @Birdofparadise8 have you emailed the team about reapplying but being barred by your postode?

@creative_writer mm it's such a tricky thing to navigate hey. Like there's pieces missing from memory and sometimes I think that sparks our brains into that place of morbid curiosity. I think it's natural to have a part of you that wants to fill in those gaps. It's also pretty normal to have some memories return much later - the brain tries to protect us from the horrible dark memories and then they might come back when we're in a safe place or even just randomly. I suppose you could weigh up whether it is more painful to sit within the unknown, or to go seeking and possibly unearth something that is super traumatising to remember. I think some people have details that they never end up remembering. And sometimes unearthing them can empower you to start processing and healing. Perhaps it is to do with whether you can find peace and contentment without ever knowing. Everyone's journey is gonna be different hey.

You ever looked into CASA for some support in navigating this?

Re: Oscillation between two mind sets

No, I haven't @Jynx

Should I do that?

I was in Tasmania, so it was all covered, and then when I moved here, I was told it was okay.

Might as well try @Birdofparadise8 I can't say for sure but if you let them know the situation, and if they also told you that you could return to GS later, then it's worth a shot, right?

Yeah I sent an email @Jynx

@Birdofparadise8, efriend, I think they are in Sydney but you can still arrange Telehealth or phone calls with peer support worker. I think it’s worth checking whether you can refer to guided service if you found it helpful.

@Jynx, I have mixed feelings about finding out. I did process things further in 2022, I was having a lot of flashbacks, my body did not forget, but my brain hadn’t fully processed things. It was a rough patch of my life. I’ve tried filling in the details with the worst scenario and the less painful scenario. I tried to convince my brain that the less painful version happened, but I know I cannot say for certain. It just felt easier to deal with but I had to learn to accept that I do not know. If someone told me the most painful version happened, I don’t know what I would do. I’ve looked at CASA and got put off by their waitlist and didn’t feel like putting myself on it, I could reconsider

Re: Oscillation between two mind sets

@creative_writer it sounds like you came to a point of acceptance about not knowing, but something has brought it back up for you again and that sense of acceptance has dwindled, is that right? Could you sit with or take some time to reflect on what may have prompted it to re-emerge, what steps you took last time to practice some acceptance, and decide whether you could do that again?

Yeah I reckon it'd be worth it - even if the waitlist is quite long still, at least you'd be on it and can use that to reassure yourself in the meantime.
